Theorycrafting: Burning Bear Trap

So with the addition of Avatar of Flame, I can only assume this build got a whole lot more interesting. With a good roll on blackgleam, could you not achieve 100% phys-> burn damage? It invalidates the Hrimsorrow build, and I don't really feel like doing the calculations, but I feel like when you run Hrim you wouldn't get nearly as much of a gain as if you got Avatar. And I mean, seriously. The burns are already doing insane damage, now suddenly the base value is increased by 100%. Would that not effectively double the burn damage?

Hatred provides bonua damage to bear trap, so run cold to fire as well.
A scion may be born of the rich, and as such hold more opportunity...
but a scion will never be able to appreciate the finer beauty of those less fortunate.
Bear trap was nerfed pretty significantly in 1.0 from what I understand. However, there were also a lot of trap passives added to the tree that could be pretty useful. And yes, with avatar of fire you can easily hit 100% physical damage converted, assuming blackgleam works on trap damage.

Since you wouldnt want to rely on crits, I'm assuming that you'd want bear trap + added fire damage + chance to ignite + burn damage + elemental proliferation + increased area of effect. Alternatively, one of those could be swapped out for remote mine, which removes the range on your trap, but gives you a whopping 50% more damage.

Here's an 84 point build with no survivability just for the purpose of theorycrafting. Equipment isnt being considered other than blackgleam.

+156% mine damage
+36% spell damage
+31% elemental damage
+24% increased fire damage

Rounding the total to +250%

Level 20 bear trap damage is about 3000 damage on average.

3000 x 3.5 (passives) x 1.4 (added fire damage) x 1.5 (remote mine) = 22050 damage per trap. Divide by 3 for ignite damage per second = 7350 x 2.4 (burn support + passives) = 17640 damage per second.

That's pretty intense, but like I said there's absolutely no survivability built in. Another option would be to use death's harp for the 100% increased crit multiplier and then build up crit chance, although that's not a very reliable path.

Edit: hrm... I forgot about hatred. I dont think it's worth using cold to fire in a gem slot, but since you're not relying on crit, it can still provide a handy 20% increase to damage through avatar of fire.

Despite the addition of trap passives, it's still a VERY big nerf :(

How much of a nerf was it exactly? It cant be that significant when you take into account the added damage from avatar of fire.

What you guys are talking about was my exact build on release day.

I'm currently lvl 60. Bear trap does about 4k damage at lvl 13 or 14 (I forget).

98% physical to fire
all trap nodes
some fire/elemental nodes
no fucking survivability
~50% chance to ignite
boring
underpowered
thinking of giving up and making a new char cause getting through act 3 merciless is a bitch

also, elemental prolif doesnt work as well as I had imagined it would have
each trap costs about 125 mana which is a lot considering my discipline reserves 49% (with hatred would be more even worse)

blah

the nerf was too much

Post your passive tree? I'm just curious since i'm thinking of making a build like this, but won't if it's not viable.
Would be better to start as a Templar but I didn't really have it planned out that well in the beginning.
