What's the point of spending 100s hrs building your character to eventually ditch it?!

The resets is why I quit poe1. Its ok the first couple of leagues but then it just eats hours like nothing else. Rather play other games at that point. To reset economy just account bound everything at league start.

Balance around ssf rather than trade. Its actually way better now than last league. I've bought one item, rest is found or crafted. Had a blast with 2 friends. Can finally play the game instead of market. The problem is that as soon as 0.4 comes around they will quit. Like theyve done before. Noone in their right mind finds it fun to spend hours in the game to get transported back to the beach. I can drop other games for a month or two without having to redo everything when I come back. Builds that no longer work in standard is also a problem.
I have fun. I beat the game. I make a new character. I do it again. You should see how many there are in my D2 graveyard. As someone mentioned, if you need some sort of endless return on investment try an MMO, but I assure you, you'd eventually get bored and discard that character too.
League wipe (a'ka Seasonal game model) is there to reset economy, so the market is not completely out of control, so new players aren't fcked.
That's the main purpose.

I would argue it's not really the main purpose, without starting over MANY of us would have nothing to do whatsoever, this game wouldn't be playable without resets.

And to OP -- you realize most of the builds / characters you are enjoying are going to be obsolete and not even function, right? If you don't know that, learn it now. What happened to the builds in 0.1? Lots are gone. That will continue to happen forever.

I would say it is silly to expect permanent progression and the ability to play all of your standard characters in the new content, if it wasn't something that GGG foolishly promised during promotion.

If you don't start over with the new content, then the economy is going to be totally ruined. It is already ruined just weeks into a league. The longer the economy exists, the more of an uphill battle it is to actually interact with it.

If you don't start over with the new content, then there is 0 hype for a new expansion or starting another character because you have multiple that are already "done". There is less people trying new skills, and the player base is completely split.

The game is at it's most fun when you just blast the campaign and early maps with mates on a fresh start. It's most fun when the community is theory crafting new ideas in a fresh economy and racing each other to see whose is best. People who think of it as "lost progression" don't understand they are signing up to exist in a character graveyard where they can't afford anything.

It is simply the best model for the game's health. If you enjoy group SSF at your own pace, then maybe you should be asking for private leagues in PoE2, so you and your friends can make your own league.
1000% agree with what you're saying. I'm in that same boat. If diablo 2 had stable items, a loot filter, a charm inventory, I'd never play any other ARPG.

Sadly their bandaid sollution is to just delete everyone progress and reset the economy. 'new season' 'new league' they say..

such a waste of time.

lotta MMO's I've seen do this too. you used to be able to constantly make endless gains. then they decided to release ex-pacs and make your BiS obsolete.

I ask ppl how they play, and they say it fun, and then i ask is it fun starting over n over n over n over? we did that back in the days with diablo 2 and making new sorc's... that shit got old. D2R came out way later and i told myself. 1 build per class, and never reroll. ever. and I never did, it was the most enjoyable arpg experience i've ever had. had 1 toon for MF'ing, 1 for 8-man grouping. 1 for farming cows. 1 for gold farming so i could gamba BiS rare rings. 1 for ubers. 1 for speed teleporting to get keys, or for whatever... but now... the arpgs today... they SUCK.

Careful.
The special needs/interests crowd don’t like anyone criticizing their beloved league system.

They limited there thinking to this system only as if ARPG is only about resetting economy and rush to collect items for trading then repeat, which is very bizarre.

ARPG is about playing a game with a character of specific role and powers to kill monsters and you lvl it up and build him up to become Godlike and defeat all... that's what ARPG is, that's what gaming is: to play and progress, not an endless resets!

Its absolutely strange how they look at it as an endless loop. Then claim "that's the only way to play ARPG online and what everyone wants".. if that's true then why Poe2 and D4 are no where in the top 10 online games with the most Monthly Active Players while we know for a fact that most gamers like ARPG genre based on its high sale records such as Skyrim, Elden rings, Diablo, and the Witcher!?

the caps lock is cringe.

Also don't compare games like witcher, elden ring, skyrim and poe. None of them are even slightly similar to one another o.ô and none of the rpgs you just mentioned have a luck based power scaling

Why? how about having something to keep doing after campaign without resets? is it impossible to come up with such new creative idea and not to copy Diablo 2 that came out 25 years ago nor transferring it into mmorpg? Have we run out of ideas?

Its not a lot of trouble to re-tweak your build at lvl 100, but it is a BIG boring trouble when you have to repeat 100 lvls again within the same campaign, levels and bosses... and without any engaging games with other online players.

There is no Caps lock, its Bold.
These are all ARPGs, smilarity was not even my point. My point is the fact that most gamers actually like ARPG genre, based on the high sales of ARPGs mentioned above, yet, Poe2 and D4 receives few percentage of monthly active players among this player base. Thus, the reset system is not actually the "most wanted" among gamers.
