Can we haggle and whisper with the new asynchronous trade window?
Personally I'm probably going to price my items in the merchant a bit higher than before, because of the convenience and QOL of offline trade. But when I'm online, and an item has sat in the merchant tab for a few days, I would be open for haggling, especially if I can set the price as negotiable. And I'm also willing to answer other questions about the items I have listed, for example how did I craft it, or where I got it.
For this to work, I envision the items in the merchant tab would need to show how long they have been there, and that there is a whisper available in the item itself, in addition to the whisper button in the trade site. And for players who do not want whispers or haggles, the item could be set with an exact price selling option, thus not showing the whisper button. ![]() Modified image from the 0.3 stream of the merchant window, showing how long it's been there, and the whisper button. Please ignore the fact that we would be whispering to ourselves in this case The whisper itself would be something like "Hi, I would like to ask something about your [Ming's Heart] listed for 20c", and then follow it with a question or a haggle. The reason to add such a button would be to encourage player to player interaction to keep the community alive and thriving. It is purely an opt-in feature, so sellers who set negotiable price are more willing to discuss the item itself with random players. But unless the button is there, the basic player behaviour is not to do things that seem difficult to do, like asking questions that might help them learn the game. This is kinda me wanting to keep the spirit of how The Trade Manifesto wanted friction and player to player interactions, so the players do not devolve into husks just jumping from hideout to hideout without checking other items for sale or discussing with other players. I do feel like this new trade could have potential for more benefits from friction than the old trade system. PS: Please offer constructive critism if you do not want this, or if you see potential problems for players who want to use this. I do feel weird about people getting offended by this when this is not intended for them. :D

" Defeats the whole purpose of the system. If you want to haggle, there is a chat channel just for you. |

I think they could add a whisper button to the website interface, where u can reference the item and ask questions about it, e.g. haggling.
Otherwise, I think u're supposed to take the item out of the merchant and up for regular sale if no one wants to buy it directly. That way people can haggle if they feel like it. |

We don't want to haggle. We don't want to interact.
We just want the item. |

I mean, when someone tries to haggle with me under the current system I immediately add them to my ignore list. Who are you even kidding, both of us know that you would never see my name to message me if there were a cheaper option available.
So it's probably better for you if the new system doesn't have a way of self sabotaging. |

" I find this hilarious for the irony :D
The old system still exits. This idea would just make the async system worse.

" I think you misspelled 'I' as 'We', because I'm not in the we you mentioned. But regardless, see trade section about listing items price as 'negotiable'. :D
" Good thing it's an opt-in feature suggestion eh? :)
" You are correct, but I was specifically talking about browsing. But I have to say, people already hate me for suggesting to optionally to talk to other players, so imagine their hate if the buyers can still whisper when the item is listed by the merchant. :D " The current trade does support haggling by listing item price as negotiable, but that never worked out for me. The reason being I was unsure if people were using it as intended, and because I always soon forgot which price tag was negotiable and which was not, so there was little trust from me towards the system in that regards. |
