Ummm No

Same game play.
Based around scarcity and wasting time.

Like PoE2 is.
and it is an excellent comparison as it was a testing ground for PoE2's mechanics.

Im thinking more a direct comparison of similar mechanics used with the same player base is going to yield the exact same results.

Player base just goes on assuming all the things they post about is true.
Like "Oh yeah they are aware of the issue with uniques and are "
"Oh yeah they are aware of the crafting issues and are ...."
"Oh yeah they are aware of the end game issues and "

I mean there are paragraphs of this yeah ?

Season 1 hits its go time.

Lots of players come back ... it's looking good ...

Some negativity starts immediately because people didn't get the changes they wanted but , its still ok.

It takes 2 to 3 weeks for the new season smell to wear off.
Then all the mechanics take hold ... and the shit storm will start.

They didn't fix uniques!!
They did fix Heralds tho .... no more screen boom
They left no crafting !!
They did fix stat stacking tho... no more screen boom.
There is still one portal and exp penalties that lose me hours of time..

And the forums start to fill ....
And the streamers start to cash in on doom posts.
And the streamers all bail, because worse than preping an end game area ... is watching someone else do it.... so after they milk the disaster posts as much as they can ... they go ...

Then the company starts giving live responses ....
and manifesto's and starts addressing concerns ... assuring everyone its gonna be great soon!!!

But wait ......

it's too late ... other companies already saw what it was that attracted players to PoE ... they are all building skill trees .... they are all implementing crafting systems with depth ...

They are eating GGG lunch!!!!

And then .... the GGG staff retire to a well earned retirement.

what, now you pivoting to scarcity and slow progress (i assume this is what you mean by 'time wasting')? i thought it was about 1-portal, deterministic crafting and trial mechanics... also what scarcity? have you ever played ruthless? progress is also faster in poe2. its not even comparable.

edit- oh bro added an expansion to his post lol, wtf any of this has to do with 1-portal lol, take this somewhere else please

the highest watched streamers bail cause they wont be able to retain viewers.
I don't like using streamers ... unfortunately they are a good barometer for some things.

the big flaw in your difficulty=punishment paragraphs is that it can apply to all level of punishment.

what if tomorrow ggg adds, you lose 1 level when die. it s punishment so it s good.
you lose 1 random item. it s punishment so it s good.
you lose 1 random stash tab of items. punishment so it s good.

makes 0 sense. what makes sense is YOU LIKE THE BALANCE POE 2 HAS NOW. and a shit ton of players wont like the 1 portal.

one objective fact on the other hand is that i dont know any game made by man that starts with, i give you a fun challenge and one you dont really know (like an unknown boss) and if you fail just once , you can try it again in a bunch of hours. And you cant just wait, you have to do some boring farm (compared to the challenge) to get back to it. And usually, people play video games to have fun. and btw, ggg has already announced they will give us multiple portals for boss.

wait a while and we will get couple portals for maps.

now ofc, they could try to assert how many people like this one portal gaming and see if by any chance hundred of thousand of players like it.

you will however easily realize that during the campaign, you have INFINITE tries on bosses and INFINITE tries on maps. (still lose the loot, but barely any penalty xp). So does the campaign suck ? because your vague paragraph would apply.

Clearly is a magnitude when people are talking about punishment

Should we just get rid of something punishing in general?

Dying in punishing, should we get rid of the ability for your character to lose all its health?

Hopefully your portal thing doesnt happen either. Theyve stated, both mark and johnathan, they are willing to tune every dial before considering it.
