End of an era at GGG; Tencent is calling the shots and gameplay is now secondary to $

The hidden profile bootlickers are out in force.

I wonder if they're even real humans or just AI Bots.

You know what's internet security 101? Keep everything private. Especially on a site that has already had multiple data breaches. Why do I need to advertise to you? How does it benefit me at all?

Thanks for the quick lesson in foolish projection, while offering nothing of substance. Feel proud?

100% what cow said, A lot of the people here in this forum had public profiles for many many years but in recent times due to a variety of reasons a lot of people made their accounts private for security reasons.

I honestly recommend you do too.

I really dislike it actually, I want people to see my information openly so that they can see im not talking out of my butt.
Innocence forgives you

As for me, they got me. I loved GGG so much that I bought the most expensive pack for POE2. I am a long time GGG fanboy. But then I hadn't been keeping up with current events since my work and home life are chaotic and I didn't know Tencent had bought a controlling share in GGG. If I had I probably wouldn't have hit that purchase button. My bad.

thing is m8 tencent bought their controlling share of GGG before you bought any of those supporter packs you own. theyve had the controlling share of GGG since 2018, which is before your account was created, probably why you missed the news.

Killing POE1 was a given the moment they made 60m on early access keys. Also by extension other givens are that POE as a free to play game is no longer a thing (since they have proven people will pay for it) and that the priority is money.

GGG had a closed beta period for the fall of oriath expansion, poe 3.0, back in 2017, a year before tencent bought their controlling shares.

they also has a closed beta period for the awakening expansion back in 2015.

you could get into those closed betas by buying a $30 supporter pack that came with a key.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
There is no grinding gear games anymore. It should be renamed to Go Get Gone since that is what steam numbers suggest average player experience is in their newest asset flip. Whole team was working for 6 months on creating early access packs instead of DOING SOMETHING AS BASIC AS ACTUALLY TRYING TO PLAY YOUR OWN GAME HASHASHDHAHAHAHSHDHASDHAHSDH

You're completely wrong, OP.

GGG's basic financials are public.
$100M in revenues, 30-50% pre-tax margin every year for the past several years.

PoE 2 is just like PoE 1 because PoE 1 was already VERY profitable.

They simply made a similar game with better visuals (better looks = more cosmetics sold).
Why risk losing it all by changing too much?
The basic formula they had in PoE 1 is blatantly present in PoE 2 as well. Why do you think we already have chase uniques and builds obliterating everything? Definitely not due to balancing oversights.

If you got baited by past interviews and bought EA thinking it'd be a new experience, you should quit while you're ahead. Eat the $30 loss and move on.

Trying to ignore the private profile and the fact that all he has purchased is an EA key.

Poor trash feedback. Not a single thing relevant, true, or even in the right ballpark.

Every word true.

cowmoo275#3095 a écrit :
1) Long Campaign = hook for more money. Literally the opposite is true. Most money comes from just before a league launch, or within the first few days. The campaign length is irrelevant. People aren't buying "more" because they are stuck in the campaign for longer. Anybody with real knowledge of the gaming market knows this.

They need to keep people in the game long enough to sell them a tab, a loot box etc. The harder and more tedious the campaign the more players will look for a shorcut. Thats how you get pay to win games. Have you not been paying attention to the video game industry for last 5 years? Pay to win is a MASSIVE cash cow for big corps. They dont care about what it does to gameplay.

2) Longevity is irrelevant: again, the exact opposite is true. They cannot, absolutely CANNOT, attract new customers every quarter. Their main goal is to KEEP the diehards as long as humanly possible to keep getting revenue. This is the entire f2p model, and it is what has made GGG and PoE 1 a success. Longevity takes many forms. One is the one you seem to only care about (even with your first point): playing for a long time without quitting. This is contrary to the the whole "temporary league" gaming philosophy since its creation and subsequent ubiquity. The new "longevity" is making players come BACK over and over again. It's still incredibly important

Longevity as in having customers come back constantly. That doesnt interest them nearly as much as the flyby private profile customer that buys the game, and goes away.

3) Killing PoE 1: doesn't even deserve a response. A straight up blatant lie

They posted yesterday on X that there will be no POE1 expansion for the foreseeable future. Please try to keep up.

4) Bots: they DO matter and they DO get reported and they DO get removed. But it is literally impossible in the tech world to stop bots altogether. Impossible. I would LOVE to hear how you handled that with your two years at EA. Engaging Gameplay: so the campaign just....was never created? There are problems with the endgame, but it sure seems like engaging gameplay is the CORE focus of PoE2, just currently not in the most rushed, most unpolished part of the game.

Bots are easy to stop. It takes some decision making at high up. Bots are rampant in POE2 because players cant get gear legitimately. Take away that problem and bots have no more customer base. For reference, in POE1 league launches they are not even a significant factor. Why would people pay $ in real life on an RMT if they can just craft the boots they want? They wouldnt. The scarcity of drops in POE2 as well as the slot machine "crafting" system create an environment where Pay to Win and RMT Bots succeed.

As someone who touted his credentials at the start of a post, presumably to lend an air of "trust me, I know", you could have really done better here. What was even your job at EA that gives you some sort of "insider knowledge" that us plebs can't possibly understand?

I have been programming for 41 years so you can guess. The details are under NDA.

It is normal for consumers to be frustrated by the empty promises issued by the companies they invest in.

If you disagree with others expressing their opinions, and you want others to unconditionally understand that GGG cannot fulfill its promises, then you must also require yourself to unconditionally accept other people's complaints. This is equal.

Except this is not at all what this post is. It is NOT an opinion, nor does it read like someone frustrated with GGG. This is some know-it-all spouting off at the hip with straight up wrong information.

No....I do not have to "unconditionally" accept other people's complaints. What a ridiculous statement to make. Nor would I expect that anything I say is taken unconditionally by others. It's a public forum for god's sake. There is no un-conditionality.

The worst possible thing anyone can do is just accept what others say or write unconditionally.
Starting anew....with PoE 2

Dont know about you but I live in a country where freedom of speech is protected and I have not done anything against the forum rules.

You chose to read the thread and reply. Thanks for the bump. I hope GGG sees this and you are helping.

I heard it was 2023 March. Irrelevant though. Up until now they functioned like an independent group. Now clearly the drive is revenue, not gameplay. So clearly Tencent is in control now.
I think we are playing different games.

I never got into PoE1, but I do enjoy 2.

Try it while you wait on that next patch. You will see POE2 is clearly inferior.
