It's just a stupid way to go about punishing people for dying, there is a reason no other game dare use this method as it causes a lot of people to stop playing characters at a certain point and pushes them away from playing the game.

.......

Or, it motivates them to adapt their tactics and / or rebuild their character into something that can beat the game, which is called a "challenge."

- Unless something has changed, Diablo 2 assesses 5 and 10 percent penalties (plus gold loss) for dying in NM and Hell difficulties, so the model is not unique to PoE and clearly works.

Now, get back in there and show those nasty reflect-o-mobs how we do things downtown.

D2 death penalty is only 5% if you pick up your corpse.

You also don't die in 2 hits in D2 if you had 500+ vitality and a maxed every defensive stat, unlike some other clone of it.
Something is really wrong if you are dying 3 times in a row to the same mob.

I love the exp penalty because it forces us to improve our gameplay to avoid death. In fact, although I'm playing in default league, each time I die I'm more annoyed by the fact that I died rather than the exp lost. I would return to the same mob and try things differently. I would repeat the same boss run until I can get it without dying.

The fun in playing a game is knowing that you've improve and is good at it.

This game FORCES YOU TO NOT GO GLASS CANNON.

Sooner people realise this the better.

DO NOT GO GLASS CANNON

Yeah meaning tanks have it 5x easier than everyone else.

I agree in punishment but a person can loose a full xp bar in 2 minutes and that is just over the top.

Why do we need to never ever die if it's not hardcore? Why shouldn't I challenge my self and for fun play solo for some thing different?

Oh wait no I should be massively punished and forced to play it safe, yeah because that's more fun.

You shouldn't loose more than one xp bar for dying.

Just go all life nodes or all ES nodes.

Life nodes OP.

Don't get anything else.

YAY for build diversity!!
The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

Thanks...been a while.

The OP seemed to be making the claim that no other game imposed an exp penalty for dying, so just wanted to set that straight.

Keep in mind, D2's penalty for a death in HC was/is, well...death. PoE lets you continue your journey in Default. So there's some give and take here.

No one cares about HC, only 2% of the population does, and they just cheat alt+f4 anyway who cares.

6k hp capped everything high regen in PoE = still drops like a rock unless you gib them from range.

2k hp in D2 with capped everything and 75% block = you have to DC in the middle of multiple packs to even stand a chance of dying.

i wish they would fix the alt f4(it isnt instant btw 6sec delay noone in right mind does it) thing so the softcore players need to make up a new fairytale

btw the game is balanced around hardcore

I really dislike how some streamers use the alt-f4 trick to avoid death, and now every Default player and his dog thinks absolutely everybody in hardcore uses such dirty tactics. I play exclusively hardcore, and I have NEVER used alt-f4 or esc-logout to avoid death.

Of course people are going to build defensively on a league that gives you such a huge punishment for dying (Expulsion from that league), it would be really illogical not to. In fact, you can get more than enough damage from gear alone, getting it from the passive tree as well is just overkill.

It works the other way around as well. I don't assume that Default players are casual carebears who die to bosses 40,000 times in a row, and I'm just about the only person in the game who refers to the league as Default instead of Softcore. Though threads like this don't really help your case. Dying to the same mob 3 times in a row is your own fault entirely. One time I would understand, but after that you should have realised what happened.

Anyway, just stop with the assumptions about leagues you know nothing about, it just makes the entire community seem like a bunch of elitists.
