Auction house
" Just for the record...The trading in Magic Online is completely automated. It is done entirely via bots and the seller does not have to be online for sales to happen. It is an absolute pleasure to use. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

" This has to make #1 as the most naive post in here. First: I don't want to play SSF. I like to trade to a certain degree. I see trade as a valuable tool. That does not mean I want trade to be the "be all, end all", which it arguable will be with an automated system. " Second: ALL loot based games with trading, has a balance between drops and trading. PoE is - now - balanced around trading. Drops ARE based on the amounts of trades being done, and how easy it is to acquire gear. Easier/faster/more accessible trade, means adjusted drop rates. "Over all that"? As long as the developers says so, we will never be "over that". Third: One league will NEVER have better drop rates than another league. No matter what happens with drop rates in trade league, it will also happen in SSF. Fourth: If you think scams/price fixing and that nonsense will be better with an automated system where bots - in a larger degree than now - will snipe everything, you're mistaken. Trade should remain a tool, not the "be all, end all". Trade IS the most powerful tool there is, why should it be effortless? Yes, trade will be easier with an automated system, no one can argue different. But the game? As a whole? It will be worse. Do you actually think that an automated system won't change the in-game progression/balance/loot tables? EVERY single update WILL be made with an automated system in mind. Every. Single. Decision. Every item with be balanced around "everyone can get this at a click of a button". It's inevitable. We currently have a VERY nice balance between SSF and trade, and the golden middle ground. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

My MTG days are well past me... quit during Ice Age. Never even considered playing it online. I can't abide cheating in a game in any form. A game has to support solo play or it wont even show up on my radar. Not exactly true... I'll play online poker, but they spend incredible resources to avoid cheating.

Meh, just automate the trade as it already is. It's what the automated eula-violating 'people' do in their hordes.
So when a trade whisper is sent the system parses it, sends a limited-access invite (can't use local portals, ect), fishes out the item desired, and waits for the appropriate currency. Once the appropriate currency appears it completes the trade, GG, T4T, whatever. Currency is dumped into a designated tab. If no currency appears within 60 seconds the system cancels the trade, disbands the trade group, and returns the item to stash to wait for another whisper. The API does not record an item as being sold until it is removed from that player's database (so the system retains the price info even if the item has been temporarily removed from stash). PLAYER never sees any of this, only a report that X item sold for X currency. Set up a more complex AI to watch trades, looking for 'bot' activity and fixers, and begins penalizing bots with ever longer delays before it 'reacts' to a purchase whisper. Locating and correcting 'fixers' would be more complicated, but modern AI should be able to figure them out, too, and make corrections. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment. |

Standard league makes no fun for me, buying items is a pain in the butt, a auction house is needed. So me plays ssf, but when playing ssf you do not get enough good item drops to be able to play the end game content.
