"as good as they can be" well they probably are.
Let's do a thought experiment here, you have to use a single target melee skill, and what that skill does is 1 shot everything and make you invincible. Would you use it to clear content? I wouldn't. Yes in my extreme there are edge cases like bosses, but mostly you still wouldn't use it. Add to that the easy availability of 6-links now and an AoE skill plus a single target skill isn't that appealing, because mostly a 4-link single target is going to be worse at single target than a 6-link AoE. |

" this is where 'mob density' kicks in if you game looks like a 1000 mobs per map - sure. but if you make packs sparse then you make AOE less valuable and single target a legit option if your single target deals 3 times the damage AOE skill does and packs are mostly 3-4 mobs (and they are not shoulder-to-shoulder) - you have a real decision: use AOE or single-target. right now, when packs are 10+ mobs strong there is NO POINT this is what makes Blizzard devs several steps ahead of GGG - they understand (and implement) value of mob density in the game balance context. single target skills will never have any value if AOE deals the same damage (Sunder.. lol) AND there is only AOE-centric content to beat |

Couldn't agree more with sid. It's one of the most prevalent design flaws in PoE that grew worse over time.

" It kinda did, they even tightened the packs at some point so they don't wander around as much and are easier to blow up all at once. It's kinda funny that the same ones they did that change for are now dissing them for too much empty space in some areas because it seems they're reducing the number of packs instead of pack size when they lower monster density. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" I remember a time in the past, when there was very limited access to "more" multipliers... when there was "melee physical damage", but before "physical projectile damage" support, and of course dozens of other spell/projectile multipliers were missing. Bow and caster builds needed to use some weird or not-so-optimal supports, while melee had access to a full barrage of "more damage" multipliers. or Maybe GGG will pray to Crom (conan the barbarian reference) to figure out the "Riddle of Melee" (that has long been solved before this game was even a thing but for some reason GGG was like: "the hell with you Crom we can solve the riddle with range") They have to fix targeting (for once) and then make adjustments accordingly. It does not matter how many values they change on a spreadsheet or how many "supports" they add it does not mean dick if a melee player is struggling just to land a single hit (what is it like 20 clicks to hit one monster now?). Also smile more this is POE for fuck's sake... Still failing to solve "The Riddle of Melee" 4.0 HYPE!!!
