Why go melee when ranged does everything better?

what changed in the last year from evasion to armour? because i remember when nobody even looked at evasion, said it sucked, acrobatics was the least used node in the entire game, everybody was IR/US. what has changed since then, other than evasion getting the recognition it deserved?

Melee VS Ranged is a highly discussed topic in PoE since start of open beta (mabye earlier in CB too, who knows)


Instead of "qq"-ing about it, why not compare those two archtyps in PoE instead? (some people have begun already in this threat)?

I wasnt here last year but armor sucks based on wiki. Even cloak of flame is better than 20K armor. Evasion basically acts like block so really not in the mitigation category.

Like vs like is comparing how

armor is to MoM, CoD, LC, CoF etc
It's bad

I don't know what changed if you say everyone took armor. Maybe they put a pencil to it and realized how bad armor is? You're much better off using an alternative above or just stacking more life/es to adsorb big hits.

Ranged is just over-performing. It's basically just "right click + pick up loot" move to next room/area and rinse + repeat.(woops i killed the map boss with my gmp screen clearer, oh shucks)

Finally one else has realized it.
rocket science here... range quite op relative melee pre melee nerf... what do they do? nerf melee to the ground, barely nerf range. not enough though, must add more useless melee shit to 'compensate' and more useful op advanced clone/tele for rangers.

brilliant logic isnt it?? all for the sake of untapped pvp 'potential' $$$? big risk here.. once the hype fades and the base experiences all these steps back.. this patch could very well be the worse ever.

The issue is desync with melee, and that melee gets no additional survivability. I'm ok with melee dps, no complaints.

GGG should have given additional defense to melee, and it should be exclusive to melee. Melee should be tanks. Instead we got some lame counterattack gems that fix nothing.

It is looking like the worst I've seen (playing since early 2013).. and here's the punchline - we haven't even gotten the full notes yet.

I'm bracing myself for more bad news. So far I'm stunned how bad the changes are.

hoping this is a one off and maybe theyll smarten up, listen better and get back to their true strength in content in 1.4.. cause im afraid this update will flop hard after such amazing one in 1.2... majority if decisions and focus for this one us piss poor imho

RE: Clearance Time Disparity

1. The addition of a spell that sucks monsters into players (Gravity Well?) would help a lot for melee. Vaal Cyclone has this effect, but it lasts too long and isn't always available.

2. Alternately, You could add this effect to Enduring Cry. Sucks mobs in, gives you endurance charges.

3. Alternately, You could make another melee/ranged skill that is like Spectral Throw, except its a hook on a chain, that passes thru all monsters along the chain, and pulls all mobs right into your face. (Spectral Hook?)

The way armour currently works needs to be revisited. There needs to be some amount of spell damage resistance applied to armour.

I think that the current effect of physical resistance is good for what Armour is supposed to do, but, its only half way there.

Perhaps a three node tree ring that lowers damage taken from spells, based on some % of total Armour. It would have the effect of Reverse Elemental Penetration.. like over cap resist, but, linked to armor.. and , ONLY activates for a short period when hit by monsters.


Melee sucking in games is nothing new. POE has some pretty good ideas towards fixing this disparity, but it clearly needs some help with its design.
