Buying a Laptop, Will PoE Run?

Wow, thank you so much for all the in depth responses everyone, I appreciate it!

So, it seems that I shouldn't get a laptop, and the more I think about it I should probably just go for a desktop. That seems like the best option!

Now, not to blow everything up here, but dare I ask what are my best options for a $500 budget as far as desktops go. Not that I can't shop myself or know what I'm looking for, just curious to see your opinions :)

Thanks again guys, your opinions and advice really does help!
The main problem is that $500 doesn't buy you much in either regard. Good hardware will put you well over that. a great CPU and GPU alone is $500.. and that doesn't include anything else (like SSD, RAM, Motherboard, Case, PSU, etc).

$500 is just not much to work with if you're trying to create a good gaming PC.

I upgrade my PCs a piece at a time. Start with a budget system, then upgrade as you go (keeping in mind the plan for upgrade).

IE: If you start with a motherboard that supports both the newest CPUs in addition to some more "budget" models, you can buy the budget CPU and upgrade the CPU later without having to replace the motherboard.

Same goes for RAM.. get a Motherboard which supports a great deal of RAM and just start with 1 stick of 4GB or something... then you can add more 4GB sticks (or possibly more) as you can afford it.

Overall, you'll spend more money that way, but you can have a useable system to upgrade over time. It's either that, or save up for longer and purchase the better system all at once. It's cheaper that way, but you won't have a usable system until longer.
Hmm, I've been doing some shopping and I can actually find a pretty great deal for $500 using Tiger Direct. I'm not really looking for the ultimate gaming rig but I mean, I bought a gaming PC for $200 with an nvidia geforce 9800 in it and only 3 gigs of ram and it ran path on full settings no problem. I think some of you are being a little dramatic about the specs necessary for this game

As I said before.. there's a huge difference between running the game solo and running the game in groups.

If all you want is solo, then you can find something OK for that price... but you need to be aware of future upgrade-ability.. otherwise you'll find yourself in the same situation in a couple more years. When purchase PCs, you need to plan ahead a little ... not to buy what's good NOW, but to buy what's good now AND also have a future upgrade path without re-purchasing every part inside.

Most of that revolves around the motherboard, so that is a key piece to select carefully.
I totally agree with that as well, I already have a GeForce 9800 so I don't have to worry about a card at least for a while. Do you have any motherboards to recommend, or a good starter/upgradable PC that I can add a card to as an upgrade for now? I don't mind buying parts and hooking it up myself either, I just don't know much about motherboards

It entirely depends on which CPU path you want to go on... first choice is AMD or Intel. then you have to pick a chipset and socket configuration you want. Once you know what CPU path you want, then you can look for things in that range that support either your current hardware and future hardware, or look at upgrading the hardware that won't work currently.

Your GeForce 9800 (GT? GTX?) is an older card, but it is still PCIe which is good since pretty much all new motherboards support PCIe at at least 2x and usually higher (16x). So it probably doesn't matter which motherboard you get as far as your video card is concerned as long as in the specs, it says it supports at least PCIe 2x.

Another thing to look for is the type of memory you CURRENTLY have, and what type you want to use. Older systems usually used DDR2 which is VERY expensive, and old. DDR3 is better, cheaper, and faster. But if your current RAM is DDR2 then you'll either need a hybrid memory board, or you'll need to upgrade RAM at the same time as the motherboard and get something newer.

Also keep in mind what type of PSU you have and whether that should also be upgraded. If you have anything ess than a 650w PSU, I'd recommend upgrading as newer hardware requires more power. The 9800 by itself recommends a 400W PSU at minimum but that doesn't account for everything else in the system which requires power (motherboard, ram, hard drives, etc).
Buy this and you will play any game available on the market in full extreme high options..:)

That's not really constructive or helpful for this post.

Everyone knows by now that the PoE engine is not very mature and optimized. So it's no surprise at all you can run all the "other" multi-million dollar games at full options fine but not PoE (an indie game with tiny budget).

also, the OP cannot afford that system right now, so posting your specs doesn't help... and I'm sure that setup can run PoE fine ... solo .... Groups is a different story.

It is in fact very constructive !
Why OP should spend allot of money for something that will not run this game ?!

But he can spend that money to play any other game on the market ...!

Win - Win

Stop this bullshit with million dollars company about game engine...it's getting old.
Simple logic : GGG engine it's eating 99% gpu on login screen !!!....you need billion dollars to fix that ?!?!?!?!!?!?
A little more brain is needed ...not money.

That build is very ok for any game and ..it's not expensive...around 700 euro in my country.

I was just helping this man to not get disappointed after spending money and not to be able to play this crap game in full specs.
