Buying a Laptop, Will PoE Run?
I play just fine (lowest graphics though) with this laptop i got 4 years ago, havent done much party play with people using particles all around so i dont know about that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834127025
also a friend of mine plays in almost lowest graphics, on a HP laptop with i5 and intel graphics card, also mostly solo play |

" I could be wrong, but does PoE even use 4GB? When I run the game it has this *32 on the task manager. That usually means that a game is not optimized around 64 bit architecture. (I guess it uses like 1-2 GB) To get back to topic, I have watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suC9WUy8e98 What the guy says makes a lot of sense & since you don't have much of a budget you have to be carefull about what you need & what the laptop can deliver with only 500$, because once bought, you are pretty much stuck with it. |

I have a £300 Laptop I play POE on(as well as desktop PC),I don't even have it on lowest setting.Even in a party with CoC managed to come out the other end.People have different ideas of whats playable/tolerable though,I certainly have no problem with 25fps and can probably tolerate 20 fps on a constant but I'd say I get better than that most of the time in POE anyway.

It's almost pointless to buy a laptop for gaming under 1200$/1k euro, it's like stabbing yourself with a fork while playing.

Bought one a few weeks ago, asus x550cc
Windows 8.1 Intel i5 processor Geforce GT 720M Only 4GB RAM Price around 600,- Runs PoE on med settings flawless, I can play Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider both on med settings fluently. With just 4GB RAM it helps to shut down most internet browsers and useless programs. But 4GB really is enough for casual gaming, you just have to keep your computer clean. The Quadro FX 880M is a terrible video card for gaming, it's between the HD3000 and HD4000, these are bad for gaming, trust me and the others on that. Playing solo might be your only option with these cards. 4GB is also rather low but manageable.

One thing I didn't see mentioned is that playing PoE on a laptop SOLO is different than a GROUP.
You can find an OK laptop that will play Path of Exile SOLO. Finding a laptop that will play Path of Exile in 6-man GROUPS however is much much more difficult. I've often said that laptops aren't meant for gaming and there is no such thing as a "Gaming laptop" other than clever marketing... and that's true... but that doesn't mean you CAN'T game on a laptop. You just have to know what you're doing, what you're looking for, and how to monitor the system to make sure it is being cooled properly and has the correct settings for the system you have (both in-game and out of game). So keep in mind that at a $500 price range, you're not going to get a laptop that is going to be doing groups. With a $500 laptop, you're going to be playing solo... and might not even play that well overall. |

Agree 100% with Drakier, I would only consider a laptop for solo play only. If you have any interest in group play, I would NOT play POE on a laptop. Depending on the group makeup, framerates will dip into the single digits and you will feel like you are watching a slideshow. That's my personal opinion and experience, I have a solid gaming laptop with a dedicated AMD card (seems POE doesn't like these cards much as well, lol).
I still enjoy the game playing solo, however your mileage may vary. Good luck and have fun. |
