Please Change The Way We Respec Passives!!

The way this game handles passive point respec's is kind of silly.

Lets say you have 3 points in your passive tree to get to a skill node.
Later, you find that you can reach the same passive node in 2 points.

Currently the game won't let you remove the 3 unnecessary nodes if there isn't another loop to feed the future nodes.

So, just because you wanted to switch paths to the same node, you would have to:

Use 2 regrets to remove 2 random nodes elsewhere,
Put 2 points into the new shorter nodes
Use 3 regrets to remove the 3 nodes you wanted to remove
Put those 2 points back into the random nodes you removed them from.

So this costs you 5 Regret orbs, even though you only wanted to remove 3 passive nodes.

Not only does that waste currency for double the amount of orbs, but its just silly that you have to use regret orbs to remove random nodes in order to get the excess you need, even though your putting them right back.

Solution:

Instead of checking to see if all passive nodes are looped at the use of every point. you guys let us mess with the tree however we want, remove the passives we dont need, and allocate them elsewhere.

After we finish and click allocate points, the game should check if all loops are ok, and all nodes are connected.

If there is an issue, it will tell the user "Not able to allocate points due to broken loop" or something like that. But this wouldn't happen if people planned the respec before hand.

I know the wording is kind of weird, but I hope I got my point across. And I really hope this change/upgrade could happen soon!

PS:
Also, maybe a set price to do a full respec? Since the bandit quests are 20 regrets each, lets say 60 regrets will reset your whole passive tree.

I know you guys want us to keep leveling up new characters to try new things, but I like my character, I put all my time into my main, and have no desire to make others and level them up all over again, especially of the same class.

Solution: Plan the tree on the website and never worry about these kind of issues again. I changed a CI witch this way and she will rock now.

Besides, respeccing shouldnt come easy, you gotta work for it and if you dont want to do that you can always make a new char. Lvl 50 and below is easy to redo.
i and many others only play 1 character, mines almost a level 90. creating a new character shouldn't be a solution, it should be a last resort. And sometimes you plan something out and find a better alternative at a later time

Playing only 1 char is your choice and i know many people who play more than 1 char. Besides, when the tree changes significantly you get a full free respec anyways. Choices are what makes this game interesting, maybe you should try D2 or D3 they got full respecs there.
Agree with Dirk, disagree with OP.

If you want to level only one character, not plan your build, and complain if it's inefficient at 90...

Path isn't the game for you. D3 is.

Dirk and I, (and many others) enjoy the depth of PoE. Removing speccing's depth, would be a silly nerf indeed.

No, no, and no.

A full skill tree is 120 points, and if it only takes 60 Orbs of Regret to do a full respec then each Orb of Regret should give you two refund points.

As to taking points and leaving a node allocated without a path to it, no. If you want to take a shorter path, you must feel the pain and regret of taking a longer path. That is why we have and use Orbs of Regret.
I really didn't think I would be met with such negative remarks.
I enjoy this game, hence why I chose to spend my time playing it. Never played D2 or D3, went strait from WoW for 5 years to this after a nice MMO haidas.

I just threw in the whole cheaper full respec as an idea but that was not the purpose of the post so don't go derailing just because you disagree with that aspect.

If I want remove 3 nodes to take a shorter route, lets say I don't need the +10 intellect anymore, it should take 3 regrets. 3 Nodes need to be refunded, 3 Regrets. Orb of Regret by definition is it gives you 1 passive tree refund point.

So let me refund the 3 points, and allocate 2 of them to complete the passive node link, and then click allocate passives, and boom, everything is gravy, I have 1 passive point left, which is why I did it in the first place.

Its already a punishment that you have to pay such prices for wanting to play the game the way you want. And as I said, change happens, today you feel one way, tomorrow you will feel differently, no matter how much you plan your tree, there will always be changes you want to make.

You say that we get a full respec when they change the passives a lot, but this has only happened once, and GGG said it is not a common occurance. Plus if they had perfected it the first time then there would be no need for remaking the tree and therefor no chance of a full respec for us.

Don't go saying that the point of orbs of regret and using more orbs then you really need is made to punish you. Change happens, people switch from axes to swords. I don't want to switch from a Axe Marauder to a Sword Duelist, I want to stay a Marauder, so why in the world should I create a new character and have 2 marauders.

Haidas? You mean hiatus. ;)

And if you want to make changes you gotta pay the price. Simple as that. You get enough free refund points and regret orbs arent expensive. Even the vendor sells them.

We got more than once full respecs, more like 2 or 3 times already. Im sick of them actually, always redoing my trees and my chars.

What about new players?
Surely players that often conduct such mistake is due to poor assumption that a bad skill tree planning won't have a double edge effect.

I don't think many new players have been using a skill tree simulator when they are playing this game, until they made a mistake, post their grief in forum, and get advised by player like you. Well, which is already too late as the mistake has happened.
