Anyone else getting tired of all the mandatory defense stacking?

Only mandatory in hardcore, if it bothers you play softcore.

Yes i'm sick of it. I wouldn't mind having a build that had 2k life, like 50% allres and still be viable for dominus farm, meaning everything up to and including dominus would be doable to solo kill. Maps are like a bonus end game content that i think not everyone should be able to do easily.

So in a way i think this would be defined as a glass cannon by todays standard?

The only comparison to the above i can make is a demon hunter from diablo 3. They had/have? crap defense but with life leech, a defensive skill and some clever positioning you can kill stuff with ease.

in poe? not so much, even white mobs start to hurt in merciless

Just saying "you don't need it" doesn't really mean much.

Should you look for a chest upgrade, would one with tri-resist and +HP not be your choice of stats?

no, because my build is going to run real glass style with infernal mantle. no tri res hp chest in the world offers the same offensive potential

Yes, I liked at least that part about Diablo 3. Abilities like Vault allowed players to skillfully avoid damage instead of just tanking through it with passive damage mitigations.
gameplay is about making choices. if at least some defensive stats aren't required, then it is practically mandatory to skip it completely. what good is survivability if you don't need it to survive? offense, unlike defense, has no limit on usefulness. so you will always want more of it. the biggest decision point in deciding your builds is where to draw the line between offense and defense, and how to go about making your defensive stats as efficient as possible.

if monsters are so weak that the "the best defense is a good offense," your choices have been severely cut down. that makes things a lot less interesting. and it makes it a lot less rewarding when you're able to come up with a good build and appropriate gear that gives you the PRIVILEGE of heavy offense. it might be fun at first to just put points into whatever you want and kill everything super fast, but the appeal wears off fast. games are never fun long when godmode is the default.

also, i think GG has done an absolutely phenomenal job of allowing massive build diversity while still making the game challenging enough that bad builds will fail. that's a remarkable balancing act to pull off.
Only non-defensive stat on chest armour is "Physical Dmg To Return To Melee Attacker".
Ok, you can try making reflect build but... it may be PvP viable with "enemy can't leech life from you" or something like that.

And what about the rest of us who can't find a unique with a gimmick that perfectly fits our build?
