You can get away from LoL here if you let yourself. Claiming this staff is just a LoL reference is betraying a *lot* of ignorance. :) Click and learn, sir.
And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
I was thinking you'd stack tons of int with this thing and get crazy area of effect radius. Like the monkey king and his extending staff (see Dragonball and Naruto for more information) or whatever. I'm not sure what skill I'd Use with that radius, whether it be sweep or a spell, but yeah.

I don't see any mention of rings/gloves/necklaces with added physical damage or other uniques with lotsa phys dmg. For example

http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Abyssus

http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Foxshade

http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Meginord%27s_Girdle

I've personally got 12-26 extra phys dmg from 1 ring and 1 necklace. And that isn't even an iron ring.

Shouldn't they all mix for erm amazing results?

i bought a ilvl 70 one that someone was selling for 8 alterations, i couldn't resist...

maybe its not worth anything but maybe it will one day ;)

I almost made a staff based FS character a month or 2 ago, with multistrike out now i almost wish i had lol

edit: also to the person above me, the staff bonus doesn't affect physical damage from items, only the base damage of the staff. there is some speculation that it will affect all phys damage in a future patch.

No, this is wrong. If you say "Uniques were never intended to be the best items for ALL builds." then you would be correct. Some uniques certainly are intended to be good only at lower levels when you first get them and worthless for end-game. Some are intended to be good only for certain niche builds(like facebreakers). Some are intended to be very good in general. But all of them should have at least SOME use.

The problem with this one is it's bad for almost any build at any level. At lower levels, you don't have high enough stats for its bonus to be worth much. At higher levels when the bonuses should be strong, its low base damage is still too much to make up for. It's definitely a very interesting item and with a few adjustments, I could certainly see it being good, but as it is now, it's just too weak to be good.

Very long, but useful article in understanding Brother Laz's analysis on uniques for Median XL, D2, and how D3 failed in uniques. Given the close relationship that the devs have had with Brother Laz in the creation of this game, one could surmise that a lot of this input has been given to the devs with regard to how to make uniques.

For those who don't want to read it, just understand that Brother Laz puts players into 3 categories, and makes uniques to satisfy them:

The Spike: Plays to win, no matter what it takes or how boring the path to victory may be. Uniques for this player would be ones that serve a definite purpose that no other item can justifiably serve. Examples in PoE: Dream Fragments, Alpha's Howl, and Kaom's Sign.

The Johnny: Sees games as a means of self-expression. Uniques for this player are ones that they can make entire builds around. Examples in PoE: Facebreaker (biggest one), Quill Rain (another favorite), and The Covenant

The Timmy: Likes big "LOL OP" stuff (rocket launchers, huge damage numbers, blood everywhere, etc.). Uniques for this player are ones that come close to being overpowered, but can still be beaten by good number crunching or an *awesome* rare. Examples in PoE: Lioneye's, Astrametus, and Marohi Erqi.

Now, when I saw this Staff, I knew right away, having read Brother Laz's article, that the staff was geared toward the "Johnny"-type. It's an item to make builds around. At no point should the staff, by itself, be stronger than other items, but if you build completely around it, it should be end-game viable. Will it beat out the most OP builds? It shouldn't, really. It should just be able to compete with them, assuming the player who uses it number crunches correctly.

Now, on the other hand, this staff should *not* lean out of that role. It should not be one geared toward Spike's. A Spike player wants nothing more than to have the most OP thing with the least effort. This staff should *need* effort to make. Its value in game, as an item, comes from the reward the players get from slowly turning it from this measly little stick to something that can cyclone across the entire board 20 times per second with great damage. A Spike player would be one who wouldn't put those points into Str/Dex/Int for the staff, though, and would instead just do the "Path of Life Nodes" so as to be able to get to the top the same way everyone else is.

Similarly, it should not be aimed toward Timmy's. If leaned too far in that direction, then it would clearly become overpowered. A good way the devs could ruin the role that this staff should be aimed for is by putting an additional stat "+1 to physical damage per level of the character wielding it". Then it would instantly become a streamer build, and everyone and their mother would be looking for it so they can make their stupidly strong sweep/cyclone/leap slam build so they can say, "LOL CAGED GOD OP!!1!" It's fine if players eventually get to that point, but by no means is it something that any person should feel is overpowered.

It just needs a little nudge so it can be appropriately powered so the Johnny's can scrutinize over every detail of their build and make the perfect AoE badass that they can manage, and have a good ride getting there.
Alteration Orb Union Local #7
I'll smash your nose with 20 Alterations before I'll sell them for 1 lousy Chaos. 16:1. No questions.
I'm not looking for it to be over-powered, I'm just looking for the 35ish nodes I put into +str to be worthwhile, lol.

Could do more dps and have survivability if I had thought it out, and just went elemental flicker strike with a shield and a high ele dmg 1her.

You know something as simple as changing the base item to Coiled Staff or Royal staff might just be all it needs.

At the moment I'm desperately awaiting a buff for this item. I am a Johnny, and I think this item will fall short.

Changing the base staff to something with a little more damage seems one way to make it playable.

FiftyShadesOfBlade
I have over 700 STR at the moment at lvl64, still waiting on the buff to physical damage..

Is there no ETA?
