PIllar of the Caged God is a real let down for me;

Let me start this off by explaining that I built a char around "Wu Kong" from league of legends after the staff came out. I only use cyclone (his ult), flicker strike (his e), decoy totem (his w), and glacial hammer (to represent Q+iceborn guantlet for my normal build).


I went through my Tree, and figured out what in all I could get while getting as many str nodes as possible. Included here is the gear I have that has +str (I've had to go back through to try to pick up more resists, so my rings are 12% prismatics with +15% all resists, my resists are only in the mid 40% :-/ really working hard on that, but it's not my main problem).




Now, with 629 str+190 dex currently, my basic attack with deals 494.3 DPS.

With the same str, my basic attack with deals 773 DPS.


Thinking about it, I've decided at no point of time will Pillar of the Caged God scale into the late game. For every 100 str, every other weapon gets +20% damage, and it gets +120% with incredibly low base damage. Sure, at a certain point it's minimum and maximum damage aren't far apart, but what's that matter when you're looking to get the biggest hit you can get out of something?


I really regret not thinking this through, completely wasted a character. I suppose I could get that +100 stats ammy, that fancy +str +% dmg belt, but I'm not made out of exalts. I was utterly surprised at how much faster flicker-clearing the ledge was by simply swapping my weapon, and instantly 1 shotting everything. I went from a 2 minute clear to a 45 second clear, with the 2 minute clear not even killing the totem, and the 45 second clear killing it (the false god).




Anyone else ever get super disappointed in a build like that? Truly sucks.

The Community and GGG are already aware of this unique being quite underwhelming compared to other staves and as far as i remember there is a fix incoming for it in the near future

Yet to play with it but I'd never make a character around it. Sun Wukong had so many more powers than you could ever represent in this game. So many! I think it'd be a disappointing 'facsimile' any way you slice it.

As for the item itself, if it's merely a matter of numerical shifting, buffing it shouldn't be a big problem provided it's justified. :)

kind of true but the physical staff that op linked is very bad and yet still doing much more damage the unique should be better then it IMO

some uniques should be BIS for very specific niche build though

I must concur at this point. Sun Wukong's staff SHOULD be strong. Very strong. I always assumed that if you could balance all three stats, it would be, in its own way, stronger than a flat 'dps' style staff.

Try elemental cyclone + dex focus?...i think it wil scale a lot better with that staff.

Yet many are very close to bis, this Staff however might the worst unique currently, even blue Items on the same level-range exceed it`s performance.
In my opinion : you have to build for this Staff , Gear+Skill-Tree got to have a very special setup..which is great, but atm. it doesn`t pay off in any way shape or form.

I got one cause it was missing in my collection, 5linked it and built item/equip (far better than what the op postet itemwise) for it...it was horrible, the damage was laughable whatever i tried, not just at lvl 70, no during the whole level-process.
