Sexy females

What does this have to do with being puritanical?

I like sex. A lot. My personal issue with sexualization in games is that it's clearly asymmetrical. I have no problem with girls wearing slutty and unrealistic armor as long as the males do as well.

It's not a matter of attraction, I'm a straight male, it's just a matter of taste and elegance. I'd rather not see one gender objectified while the other isn't.

Take Street Fighter 4 for example. I have no issue with that game; the girls are sexualized to an extreme, but so are the guys! For each almost-exposed set of boobs and round asses there is a shirtless male with bulging muscles, I'm okay with that.

However, most RPGs take the same armor set, and while it looks realistic and protective on a male, it turns into stripper gear for the girls.

GGG have taken the realism road by portraying their characters like how real warriors would look, which is something I appreciate given the setting. Males are scarred, ugly and old, so why should females be sexy?

CLOSET GAY DETECTED

What a mature response =P.

Whatever. I'm not going to argue about my sexual preference, it's pretty clear to me and I have nothing to prove.

The point still stands though. It could be made by a straight guy like me, a gay person or a girl. We play games in which medieval warriors are portrayed, and it's annoying to say the least than realism and logic are neglected for only ONE gender.

I play PoE in a duo with my girlfriend. I play a Shadow, she plays a witch. I like the fact that I can look at our characters and see that they belong to the world around them, rather than the usual "heavy armored guy/slut" situation we are used to in other games.

You're overthinking it, I must frown at your attempt to fight your natural urges; the bottom line is that when characters are pretty...they are more PLEASANT TO LOOK AT...FUN...INTERESTING...BETTER...

I'm as superficial as everyone else! At least I don't create complex mental fighting mechanisms to FIGHT MYSELF IN DISGUST...

Why go one step down when you can go one step up, and create ELITE HUMANS WITH MASSIVE BOOBIES...

Interesting. Yes please don't listen to the rabid forumers I already find some of them overserious to death, their ideas would probably make the game EXTREMELY boring ...

I dont think your last comment helps... -_-;
I was nodding my head along until your last sentence. You're adding oil to the fire.
From dusk to dawn they fall in my traps,
monsters all dying and taking dirt naps.
At last I emerge with narry a scratch,
scrounging the field for any small catch.
A bauble? A jewel? A small golden ring?
A unique item would make my heart sing!

I'm all for sexy looking characters, in the broadest sense of the term: engaging, good looking, attractive, etc.

PoE's gameplay is great, but the characters are not very exciting.

My ranger is rather drab and boring either from a distance or from up close.

I don't have a big issue with this... but how is GGG going to convince me to spend on "fluff" when my character doesn't look all that great to begin with?

Are we going to suddenly find enhanced shaders and much better looking models in the store that are not in the base game? Likely not.
Read the developers diaries again. They are going for a gritty realistic look as well as trying not to make this game too commercial. Obviously sexually appealing females are not out of the question in a gritty game, but they would feel somewhat out of place. The Witch for example starts off dirty and in rags, as someone who has just been exiled (and probably beaten and abused) would look. She is not made to be a sexually appealing bombshell with a two piece bikini armor and charm spells. She is fighting for her survival, not to get a date.

This is actually something that I find rather off putting with games such as League of Legends and Diablo 3. A little sexuality here and there is fine. But why is my female Monk be running around in less clothing than you'd see on the average swimmer at the beach? And why is Miss Fortune, a pirate who steals things for a living, running around in skin tight pants and a tube top when fighting massive legendary enemies with tons of plate armor?

Games such as Diablo 2 and Path of Exile however tend to try to be a bit more realistic. As much as you can be when focusing a game on magic, monsters and zombies. But think about it. If you put on a Mage's Vesment armor, how in the world would it suddenly make you look like you are wearing a Bikini top and spandex shorts?

Don't get me wrong, I like plenty of fanservice and freedom in game design. One of my favorite RPG series is Dragon Quest and some of the best items in those games are such as the 'Sexy Bikini' or 'Divine Bustier', items that give your female companions massive bonuses to defense but are designed off of underwear. But you know what, it works in that game because it doesn't take itself seriously and separates the 'design' from the 'functionality' of items. Path of Exile on the other hand is trying to be more serious and combine the functionality of items directly with its design.

I've been thinking about this, and if GGG are going down the realistic path, it's kind of hard to take them seriously when they let us have invincible kiwis following us that we can summon and dismiss at will, yet at the same time we're supposed to be exiled to some hellhole.

Not offering non-combat companion pets would hurt them more financially than not offering "sexy females" would. By many orders of magnitude.

Non-combat companion pets are probably going to be their biggest cosmetic seller, honestly.

Let's just say they're made out of the same stuff that equipment is made out of, and therefore invulnerable to all damage. Or maybe monsters don't attack them because they mind their own business, unlike your exile who seems intent on murdering everything that moves.

This is a pretty weak defense, I agree. Just, suggesting that they don't offer non-combat pets is like suggesting they cut off their arm. There are many, many good arguments against the "sexy females" model and very few against companion pets: they're unrealistic, but a staple of cosmetic cash shops.

Blocking pets for the sake of realism would be akin to blocking applying a new skin to an existing character. It makes ZERO sense that a character can change skins in the middle of his/her "life," but restricting newly purchased skins to newly created characters would not go over very well at all.

Likewise, allowing more characters/more stash space from the cash shop also makes zero sense. Why do some exiles have more stash space than others? Where do they find the room? Why can't everyone get more? Why can't you create unlimited exiles if you can create more than one? "The player bought the extra space" is totally un-thematic, but it's necessary.

Anyway, my point is just that the "sexy females" thing has many counterarguments. Realism is only one of them. Also, I'd argue that it's much more jarring than other unrealistic things offered by the cash shop, though I admit this is subjective.

I wasn't actually suggesting they don't offer pets.

Really? Granted, there's a good argument against the "sexy females only" model that the OP starts with, but I haven't seen any good argument against having "sexy females and sexy males", especially when they could be restricted to a special league for that sort of thing.

The reason I brought up the kiwis is precisely because they're unrealistic, in order to show that the complaints based in realism against different costumes hold no water (unless they also support having no pets).

"

Exactly. What would these costumes be if not new skins?

So apart from sexism, which can easily be solved by also having "sexy males", what are these many counterarguments?
Maybe just maybe, ggg can do the skin things in Counter Strike way. you can choose how toons look like in your very own computer, lol. One could have naked lady running around in his own world, while other players can choose to see a complete different rendering...

Is that at all possible?

I was playing my ranger and was APPALLED by the lack of boobies. I mean, who doesn't like playing a sexy slut?

Would you describe Lara Croft as a sexy "slut"?

She's very attractive as far as fantasy character goes, but I would certainly not think of her as a "slut".

As for the Ranger she's just great. She is actually attractive in her own way, again as far as videogame characters goes ...

Both the witch and the ranger are a little bit quirky, more so the witch of course, and have a little something attractive about them.

Right now I'd say the skin won't help, and it's the models that need a little bit of tweaking. Like the Ranger if she's facing certain angles when standing in town yo ucan see the polygons on her rear end, very angular. The Witch also looks very nice in some poses, and quite terrible in others.

I'm sure they'll be improved eventually.
