I managed to clear three chaos levels before a group of cold snap spammers killed me from one screen away.
I know it seems bad compared to other players, but considering I am casual and I can "manage" some chaos, I think its pretty good way to go.

After CI downgrade i'm still using flicker strike as main skill. Whirling blades and fast attack speeds helps you survive in chaos. I've also added Conversion Trap. It is so funny to watch rare mobs dying so fast without any your additional moves :)
The key is high attack speed (more than 2,00) and good ES equipment - escpecially ES shield (i've one with 408 ES).

haha I wished I had one too...the best I found is 150
I kept going with lightning strike, also above 2.0 attack speed with my super fast axe.
I added totem with ice spear and greater gem, it makes chaos a bit easier, but still cant find better ES equipment :/

Your "guide" is fine I guess OP, but I object to "lightning>fire> cold"
This isn't an MMO where you mouth breath your way through maxing your dps. I'd say Lightning>cold>fire.
cold damage, + increased chill duration +Breath of rime is great for shadow.
Fire for me is what ever.

Out of curiosity, how many times have you died? I'm holding off on getting CI until I can get some more base ES.

I took it at something like 400hp, 500ES.
You'll get 50% more ES for taking CI, and keep Discipline up.
You need ES recharge and decent evasion. Having a couple hundred less ES than you may want doesn't make CI not viable... ( with in reason. You want a decent ES before you take it. I guess what is decent is subjective)

I'm 53 now, with 1500 ES, 46% evasion, 42% chance to block.
Just cleared Fetid pools on Merciless and trudging ahead.
Only 4k dps, but I don't have a weapon quiet as good as the OP's, and I just finished taking Catalyze, so he's got some ele dmg% that I don't :P

General channel jsut now was a fucking hoot. 2 people saying how bad energy shield and evasion are as melee.
I said please stop talking about mechanics you don't have actual knowledge of, you look like a moron. Sadly they jsut kept parroting " ES and Evasion sucks".

I'm 57 just finished Merciless church. ( I don't see the appeal to rushing, but I'm not purposely lagging behind)
I've stopped periodically to finish leveling up, for fear of losing exp%.
At 4800 dps now with frenzy stacks, ( 3800 without), and 2.7k ES with Discipline up, 43% evade with Grace up, 43% block.
Kind of disappointed to hear about Chaos difficulty, and evasion/es Shadow. The census seems to be you'll die.
Wondering if there's a point to bothering anymore, or if I should reroll.
I could spend the next levels on the 10% evade nodes south from the start, but I seriously doubt it would matter much.

Chaos sounds pretty broken/imbalanced.
