dual wielding 2(2) handed weapons?

Too WoW for my tastes. PoE already relies on so much that is established in the genres and RPGs, i would rather they try something more unique
"I have legacy to consider"
I know it seems unbalanced now but think of how easy it would be to balance.. i mean people think the marauder with 2 great swords is OP but no one thinks a witch with 30 skeletons and 15 zombies is OP. There is an obvious clash of interest here.. The things people find are OP, are nothing compared to what in actuality is over powered. Make the marauder suffer greatly in movement speed like someone said before.. make it cut his attack speed in half and his off hand weapon have half slots if dual wielding 2, 2 handed weapons.. This might take time to balance but i promise the first time a witch in pvp freezes you in place and uses phaze with 300 zombies around you.. you'll be curious as to what over powered really means..

See what i mean dual wielding is a legit thing.. people just say things because they dont like the fact that melees are suppose to be scary if they are next to you... Its dumb to think a witch should rape a marauder unless she kites.. with dual wielding it would just make a marauder seem more dangerous than a duelist with a 2h i mean come on...
PoE have to be and dark fantasy cRPG. Dark fantasy equels for example: not dual wielding two-handed weapons.
If you would read about or try out ancient and medieval warefare you would know that its just ridicilous idea. There were a lot of powerfull wariors in the history of the batlefields, and they were smart enough [even barbarians and berserkes] to not try this.

The "long sword" was light two handed sword, but there were no reason to use it even with a shield not mentioning the second long sword. Because of its size

It's because you can't wield a bloody greatsword with 1 hand.

Are you basing that on reality?

Wielding a Great-Sword in 1 hand is quite a bit more realistic than summoning a friggin' ghost. :P

Sorry for out of topic.

And for the record, i wouldn't mind 2h dual wielders, feels pretty decent to slaughter a massive giant with a sword as big as himself in each hand.

Longswords were often used with a shield. A normal longsword is about 26 inches long of blade and weighs about six pounds with an 8-10 inch hilt IIRC. It wasn't that heavy and could easily be used with a shield.

Larger swords such as hand-and-a-half swords and greatswords weren't used with shields because of how unwieldy they are. Even the bastard sword is nearly 4 feet long.

So because the average person cant carry to great swords a 7 foot marauder with retard strength cant either.. Who is far beyond an average person. the duelist shouldn't dual wield 2 axes or maces. But a marauder most definitely could. Just because it doesn't happen often in RL doesn't mean it cant happen in a game. Also when you can summon 30 zombies and shot ice from your hands.. then come back and argue RL facts...
I'd like to remind you guys, that no skill is character based in this game. You could easily make a sorceress take the dual wield 2 handers skill, even if i cannot see why you would.

That being said, quoting "monkey grip" is a horrible thing. Monkey grip was always a dumb skill, wich hardly mattered in D&D, because it was always less than awesome, and caused quite some discussion (such as this one right now) about reality in fantasy games and such...

anyway: the reason why you grip a twohander with two hands is not because you are too weak to do it with one hand. Almost everyone (even a sorc) could do that with a bit of training. The reason is: speed. by gripping a weapon with two hands, you give the tip of the blade more control (hear hear) and speed. Speed equals damage, more than weight equals damage (Kinec energy... look up the formula).

If you are forced to wield a twohander with one hand (because your other hand is not available (this happens not only if its chopped off)) you are also at a serious disadvantage: the (much bigger) lenght of the 2 handed weapon acts like a bigger lever against your hand than a single handed weapon would have. Your strikes will be slow (therefore with less damage) and you would have to lead it with more of your body. Go on and try that. It is fun, and you see quickly why it is ineffective.

Also: Please do not use "Longsword" like it is a historical fact. The D&D guys f'ed up there. The long sword was historically a twohander (correctly used in PoE). What D&D called a longsword was just a sword in the past.

Also a nice notice: the katana, a sword that is about in the same length and weight class than western one handed swords is almost always used with two hands. It is not because japanese people are puny weaklings, it is because they studied this kind of weapon and did rigorous (and often disgusting) research (like "testing" on life people and corpses) on how its most effectively used. Of course some epic masters are said to have dual wielded katanas, but that is mostly for show and because they probably beat their normal riff raff with one hand tied behind their backs and one leg cut off at the knee.
