Why Im quiting PoE until SSF gets better drops

After one year and half playing this game I have created 4 chars and level them up to 72-82 each. I have put in this game more than 954 hours of my life, most of them trying to get end game with my chars.

Like all average players, I got skilled, learned many things, followed guides, did so much research, theory craft using planner or path of building, used vendor recipes (chaos orbs too), saw many streams on twitch, etc..

Problem is: after a long time playing you dont evolve in this game. You get on the same point you was on the beggining:

- droping garbage uniques to sell for cheap. doing maps with mediocre results, always.

- waiting for months (sometimes) to drop one exalted orb. and this exalted will not solve your problems because you cant buy even a rare 5L body chest with 700 ES!

- broken economy: as I said above, that 6L unique body chest you need for your build will cost much more than one or two exalteds. GGG says "a new league with a fresh economy" what it means? for me, it means four times the price of standard league. It means that I will not get the gear I need. It means I will get stuck on the same tier maps and nothing will happen.

- get one shot killed by tricky maps or merciless Izaro. I dont understand why, why should I level up and invest on a char to die like a piece of paper? why a ranger with 14k EV and chance to dodge is one shot killed? why a witch with 7k ES is one shot killed? enemy have crit chance and crit multiplier that mulitplies their damage at a giving moment, killing you like paper? oh yes! great! I like to die and spend hours playing for nothing! thank you PoE! I will comeback for more of this! RIP

As a player, I just cant enjoy my char at end game. Even if I "dodge" tricky maps, I will not get the gear I need to progress, because of bad drops and broken economy.

So, I decided to end this waste of time and just deleted all my 4 chars (in standard I had like 32 chaos and in legacy I had one exalted) because if I continue playing I will be in the same situation in a few months.

If SSF gets better drops and item/stash migration retired I will come back to play only SSF and will continue supporting this game. Until then, Im out of PoE.

So you want a special league with special drop rates because SSF people are special?

I have the same experience. The end game is "balanced" around having perfect gear, but that gear rarely drops (if ever). I've also been playing for 4+ years and never found a 6-link. In fact: I usually find much better gear playing through the story than in maps of any kind.

Lucky me: I enjoy playing level 1 - 72, so I just do that again. And again. The crappy drops help set the thematic scene of being exiled to wraeclast, it being unforgiving, etc.


I do feel kind of sad about all the end-game material that I cannot experience... I suppose I will eventually get to try uber atziri... at this rate in about 10 years. (Found my 3rd midnight fragment recently...) Maybe they will introduce trading into the game before then and I will just buy my way in :P

This is my gear after 2 weeks of playing a few hours a day or less. It's a SSF build. It's a summoner build that is capable of doing tier 6-7 maps with any mod.
I am happy with it and really like SSF so far.

So far I was able to get some build enabling uniques for later builds.

These builds will be able to do normal Atziri and might be able to do high tier maps. Uber atziri or shaper is not possible but something I don't expect playing SSF with the time investment I give.

You can say its a grind to get this far, but I like it. No trading and every piece of progress feels like an accomplishment.

Edit: 5 links are in reach I think with . Just waiting for a good chest to 5-link.

Any league of PoE should not prevent the player from getting items and reaching end game

Well, you already have four chars in SSF. Trading of sac sets and uber atziri already exists in normal leagues, so if you are talking about trading inside SSF then.. does not make sense lol

Not bad! So you would say that the drop rate is already good or not?

I ask because I saw several people and streamers complaining about the drop rate in SSF, I never played SSF

The droprate is normal I would say. And POE normal is pretty hardcore to get good gear. So SSF is not for everyone.
But then again you don't need top level gear to get to play upto tier 7 maps. Playing those maps will eventually get you anything to be able to do the other game content. Eventually might take months.

The golden rule for playing SSF is: 'Don't plan a build that requires something special.'
For me SSF is incremental. The first build will do tier 7 maps. The second build might do tier 10 maps. The x'th build will do everything. That's my vision.

Check out the character creation screen. GGG does not offer SSF as a separate league, it is a self-segregation option, as is Hardcore in Standard. In HC, you can trade or party only with other HC characters. In SSF, you can neither trade nor party with other characters. In both cases, the HC and SSF characters on your account share a common stash only with other HC and SSF characters on that account. If you don't party or trade in HC, the only difference between HC and SSF is that HC characters are automatically resurrected in Standard softcore on death, while SSF characters have a one-way option to migrate to Standard softcore at any time.

Nonsense complaints except for the monster damage, i actually quit temporarily in hc(perhaps permanent, will know after 3.0.........) due to the huge imbalance of output dmg with certain map mods and the feeling of being forced to go CI when i dislike playing it.

Otherwise, loot is partly up to you, rarity/quantity + efficiency.

I havent even gone hard this league, work and normal sleep schedule prevents me from going 4-6+h/d(except weekends), but still managed to get all this:

Atm i got probably 3-4 more builds i want to try out, my EK char is in hold for a while since i want to play with the jewel at this point. Got lucky today and found 2 BLS + another pair of alberon, a few better str items and that build is ready. Farming for the awesome brinerot shield shouldnt be too hard when i want to build around that. Even with the current state of the game i'm very likely to build a nice face2face melee later on.
The only thing i miss atm is a legacy items :D. 0 gotten so far.

With some of the combinations possible by the leaguestone you can gain some decent items.
I "forced/lucked" my 6 link with the stone that makes exiles drop linked items, with onslaught for quant and strongboxes to roll for more exiles, on exile maps. That gained me a few 5 links also. You can also be lucky to get the 4 exile prophecy as well on top of this.

With the exile leaguestone that makes the drop mirrored items, you can harvest chance orbs like crazy while doing maps. I got 60-80 chance orbs in under an hour in addition to the other loot. In SSF i feel they are more important as scourings since i'm not even close to finding enough sorc boots to run out of chances.

Running essence all the time in maps should also be quite helpful for some simple crafting.

Had to check the date of your post here.

I paid 1+ Ex for a 5L in the past, but that was a long, long time ago. 7-8 leagues ago.

Today, you get your 5L for 1-2 chaos. I don't even bother to pick them up anymore.

Anyone, literally anyone can afford "a 5 Link" today. It gets a little more expensive if you want a specific 5 Link, but still, just by picking up rare items and vendoring them, in a couple hours, you get the alterations -> jewellers -> fusings to afford them.

With time, you get a feeling for what you can afford, and what you can only dream about. If the guide says "you need a 6L Shavs to make it work", just close the tab and use another guide.

There's plenty of build that can steamroll mid tier maps in a 4-5L or a tabula rasa, maybe use one of them until you can afford the crazy stuff.
