Why are cosmetics SO expensive?

" why so agressive? lagwin is totally right: for all mtx that are not really needed ingame (everything except stash tabs and char slots), the discounted price is the real price because players can wait endlessly for the discount without having to suffer any disadvantage. offline

Discounts are so that people are involved into the game - checking them every day.

^ That's understable, but with initial price so high I'm totally discouraged to buy item outside of discount, which results in my interrest in mtx disapperaing over time.
IMO the discounted price should stay as it is, but initial price should be lowered about 20-30% to stay closer to discounted one. This way I would consider buying something I want without waiting for discount. Not a signature. Dernière édition par Turbodevil#3930, le 15 mars 2017 à 04:56:28

The business model is fine unless you like spending on consumable visual cosmetics which is quite literally, you burning money.
If you dont like the prices i suggest buying mystery boxes. Its a gamble but as long as youre moderate with how many you purchase you always come out with great items for cheap. Hundreds of points worth of items, for 100 coins. Also, supporter packs are the most valuable purchase because they essentially come with hundreds of points of free stuff as a thanks for a regular points purchase. There are also plenty of free MTX available each league to earn. Harvest sucks! But look at my decked out gear two weeks in!

there is only 1 real question to asked regarding MTX "WHY cant we (or rather i XD) have some fitting Shield MTX for my Hydra/Frost or any other Armorset that comes to my mind.
I know there is one for Seraph (sadly this one is kinda getting old) and Carnage (i really dont like this one) but especialy the Supporter Armorsets, which come with a fitting Weaponeffect/Footprints, are missing those. (i wouldnt mind the supporterpacks beeing a bit more pricey than (maybe add like 10-20$. I stil got some points to spent (the legacy packs dont seem worth it too me,since i wouldnt use the mtx) and would love to have a good to buy another pack with 3.0. But without shield MTX somewhere (doesnt have to be in the pack though) i just dont see myself buying one atm. SO PLEASE give me a reason to buy them i would love to throw some money at GGG. ps. i hate the idea of 1 use only MTX, when i look at at the Armorsets (especialy for packs) it reminds me of the "good time i had in league XY" Dernière édition par ciel289#7228, le 15 mars 2017 à 14:38:18

I can't say I'm surprised that most people responded to the thread title instead of the content and points made in the actual post, but I didn't really come here to debate. My main point is that there are MANY examples of proven, incredibly profitable methods of MTX out there, and GGG's system doesn't come close to matching them. It doesn't matter if they're making money; that is NOT the measure of whether a MTX system is successful or not. The success of a MTX system is measured by the participation rate of your entire consumer base.
Obviously, if you make a great game, some people are going to buy your outrageously-priced items, and I'm not suggesting that it's wrong to have certain items be on the much more expensive side. In fact, very expensive items are supposed to serve as a top-tier indicator, and are supposed to better illustrate the fantastic value of the majority of the product line. "Wow, that item is super expensive, maybe I'll get it one day. In the meantime, look at the awesome value of this other thing". That's an important component in any store. However, if your MTX barrier to entry is so great that MOST consumers aren't regularly using it, then there is a problem. PoE has an ENORMOUS playerbase. Do any of you realize how much money GGG would be making if their MTX store was actually appealing enough to most of those players as to regularly encourage them to use it? It's just like I said, I've spent HUNDREDS of dollars in other games(not including subscriptions) simply because the developers kept thrusting all this terrific value in front of me. I was continually forced to say to myself, "well damn, at that price, how could I NOT buy it?". THAT is the question you want your consumers asking. You do not want them wondering if they can afford to buy something. For all of you who actually think GGG's business model is solid, just take a look at the participation rates and profits of other successful models. GGG's prices are literally the most outrageous that I've EVER come across. The fact that I'm sitting here trying, yet utterly failing to justify ANY purchase is not a good thing, especially considering the fact that I regularly participate in MTX in practically every other game I've ever played and enjoyed. |
