Chaos damage is OP
I play Voltaxic LA in Perandus and I've got to, at least partially, agree: Chaos dmg is superior.
There's no downside to it. You're completely immune to reflect and you even deal a bit more dmg because you don't really have to care about resists/defenses. While I really dislike the reflect mechanic in general and think that there should be other ways to penalize glass-cannon builds, I also do think that 100% chaos conversion (not chaos spells themselves!) should be rebalanced in a way that gives them a downside or some disatvantage compared to elemental damage-types. What feels most OP is, in my opinion, that the argument "there's only a few chaos dmg nodes on the tree" doesn't apply to converted chaos damage since you benefit the same from (in this case) lightning nodes and just basically get to "double-dip". |

" No worries mate. Complainers will always find stuff to complain about and actual players will always find builds to provide them with reasons to complain. GGG may or may not nerf chaos and poison, it will either not be enough and the tears will continue to fall or it will be a nerf to the ground. In the second scenario, complainers will rejoice for a week and then start looking for other offenders to cry about. Such is the cycle of life in the forum game. " Actually chaos damage isn't simply caters to newbies and encourages brainless spam play, chaos damage also has insane dps potential over all other damage types. So there's is a problem when a damage type not only does far higher damage but is also safer. On top of that a long time ago GGG said most monsters (with no additional modifier) has the average of 30-50% elemental resistance, 30% physical damage reduction, and 0% chaos resistance. This means even if chaos damage didn't scale stupidly like it does right now, chaos damage by default will do 30% to 50% more damage. Furthermore, there are physical and elemental damage reflect mods for maps but there's no chaos reflect mod. There are also increased physical/elemental damage reduction mods, but there's no increased chaos resistance mods, as well as most builds (even physical builds due to auras like hatred ect) takes a further clear speed nerf for elemental equilibrium mod, yet it's just free pack size for chaos handicapped. tldr In case you still has zero clue why people call PoE "chaos meta" and making fun of the stupidity of it... chaos damage scales the best ingame, has the highest clear speed, has zero map mods that could reduce it's effectiveness, and monsters in game by design lacks of chaos resistance in general... on top of ALL those, chaos damage is also the safest damage type in the entire game... you got 1500% crit multiplier? your spark crits for 200,000 chaos damage? doesn't matter, just spam away blindly and carelessly... it works. The real hardcore PoE players and the elites sit in town and zoning in and out of their hideouts trading items. Noobs that don't know how to play PoE correctly, kill monsters for items. It's pure fact, it will never change.

As someone else said earlier, basic chaos dmg is in a good place,it's " XX% of Y converted to chaos dmg" that's op atm.

Chaos damage can't be buffed by curses (unless you have Chaos DoT, which is good with Vulnerability).
Chaos damage has no status ailment, unless you count poison, but poison is not on by default (or Voltaxic). As far as I have seen, there are only +1 to Chaos Skills items, no +2 ones. Quite some monsters have resistance to chaos damage (many humans like Cannibals, Bandits) - so that it does not stand out there. The one huge advantage is that it is immune to reflect; without any conversion, chaos damage would be just fine. So, please nerf conversion, not chaos per se if you want to nerf anything. It's quite ironic when GGG's new shiny released chaos focused spells really don't see much play because chaos conversion is so retardedly overpowered that ALL the curse effects added together still doesn't come close to chaos damage scaling. While chaos sparks are out there killing core malachi in 10 seconds and clearing gorge in 52 seconds. Does the existence of a (many) strong chaos build(s) somehow disable all other non-chaos support/active gems in the game? Where is the problem for you? |
