Evasion is dead? I don't think so!

Exactly what I was going to say, I was watching his life pool constantly going below 50% and was telling myself "this is not op at all, that's bad".

To be fair, this is how evasion builds work. You have time between big hits to replenish your life.

im sorry but the very change from ondar's guile to arrow dancing is a massive loss in evasive defense from 1.3 - 2.0. so no, you cannot evade just as much in 2.0 as you could previously.

what made evasion so amazing before...and we're talking from open beta all the way to 1.3...is the fact that it took SO LITTLE investment to be massively defensive.
all you needed was acrobatics cluster and ondar's guile, boom, defense. there were many other options to make it even tankier, like coil etc, but those were optional. now those are not optional, they are required. also you need a lot more investment into HP, +% evasion, gear and charges and whatnot.

im not saying evasion is completely useless now, but i don't see the point. im all about effectiveness and min/maxing. i don't see the point in investing so much to dedicate yourself to something that can still get one shot in 2.0 in high level maps.

by all means you can continue to use it and make it work, but be honest with yourself. it isn't as good anymore, and if you want to make the best character you can you will always be better off not rolling evasion in 2.0.
You almost die on every single pack of monsters. Cant be good for your heart if you play like that on hardcore.

I will be brutally honest with you, having your life pool constantly dips past the half way point or below that is nothing close to being "viable"

I'd recommend you to roll gorge map with similar mods and try to rush it in about 6 mins with a phys build, and tell me how your hp pool looked like. Unless you can maintain perma IC it'll look ugly.

You'd instantly reroll/sell that map on hardcore, and if you didn't you'd probably not try to rush it.

The point of the video is not to show regular mapping, but that the character can survive even fairly extreme situations.
I think your post solidifies that evasion is dead. You are barely surviving with LC and Taste of Hate. That is not a pure evasion character. In the past, you needed neither of these to survive difficult maps. And yes my armour character could roll this map with barely dipping my hp pool.

Edit: and this was only a 76 map which is pretty low to me.

Hi,
So I watched the video and I agree with the one poster that said "having your HP drop to 50% consistently isnt viable especially for HC players". For me, thats too close for comfort in HC.

In the past few days Ive taken step away from HC to play Warbands and just progress through the game(with minimal mistakes and minimal deaths). I am aiming to run a max ES dual claw shadow, similar to the guy that runs the 18k ES...I don't expect to get anywhere close to 18k, but it inspired me!

With that said, with what this guy is doing with Evasion and is HP pool vs a CI ES melee character...whats the difference really? This guy's HP pool is constantly going up and down, and thinking about it...an ES will go up and down constantly.

Trade one for the other? Pick your poison? Or am I missing something?

I guess what I am getting at is...Is Armor + high HP + high Regen/leech the only viable defense set up? Are Evasion and ES builds too risky, too gimmicky, too gear dependent to make work? If this is the case, I'll be very disappointed if I see that my ES can only go to 3.5-4k self found. GGG needs to do something to balance the defensive options in PoE. Armor + life is the safest and easiest route by far, IMO...and becoming boring and cliche.

Pure evasion melee isn't really suppose to be a thing imo.

Hybrid melee is still in an ok place right now it's just possibly harder in temp leagues because of how rare lightning coil is.

I just kinda feel like a lot of people aren't adapting to the enduring cry endurance charge meta.
Pretty much every build right now should be making use of endurance charges.
I mean every build before did but it was fully automated with cwdt.

And yeah vs bosses your much more likely to rip but I feel that's kinda the way it's suppose to be right?

You character also uses LC and ToH, so same point applies - you're not a "pure armour" character.

Evasion has always been about taking occasional big hits and evading the rest. I don't see why people say "your hp constantly drops below 50% it's so bad etc." OP is rushing a reflect, -max, -recovery map, reaving huge packs and facetanking pretty much everything, even when it's not needed. That's not the safest way to play this map, to put it lightly.

Maybe some pure armor fans should try to make a build that stacks nothing but armor, no LC/ToH/Fortify/Extra end charges/Block/AA/Chaos Golem. And if that is not a viable way to build a character, then why stacking nothing but evasion should be?
In fact, OP is not wrong, he's just imprecise.

He should have say : evasion is not dead, it's a good layer of protection when used amongst several another good layers of protection.
Well, yes, hybrid is not dead.
