Why did you or your friend quit playing POE?

Mostly, because they were the child in 'the emperors's new clothes'.

Pointing out obvious bad designs like economy gated content, inventory dimensions, free for all loot, crafting, crafting materials as gold, pointlessly bad drop rates of said 'materials', netcode and prediction, etc, etc, etc; they were met by a community who refused to risk their 'hardcoreness' by agreeing.

They left pretty damned quick, quite amazed at how so many people insisted the king was in a lovely new suit. Tell wannabe hardcore gamers that shopping, inventory management and quit-the-game-or-die is hardcore gaming and it will become hardcore gaming.
Casually casual.

And if the game was offline and had no desync people would hack the shit out of the game and quit in less than a month because its boring.

D3 is online and has little to no desync. because the server trusts the client more in his movement (not in damage/drop calculations. just movement and attacking)

ggg doesnt want to trust the clients on this one because... i dont fking know. anyway this has been discussed to death already, and they wont ever fix desync.

"
i feel like they're getting away from what made poe great and unique.

ye pretty much...

magic has been lost :D

Why are they going away from what made it great and unique though? They didnt change much yet. Except for monster variety and masters i dont see changes all that much.

And D2 had hackers getting into the online version too, not just the offline version just because of some client trust. Dont blame GGG, blame hackers. Instead of "GGG, fix desync" say "hey hackers stop hacking", would do as much as asking GGG to fix desync, as in, it wouldnt do anything but you get to blame the right people.
I stopped playing for 10 month after my first go around , got fed up of having no currency drop to get to play higher maps etc and no crafting because I couldn't afford it .

I also never ever had a decent drop in all my playtime , had to resort to trading , first time around I stuck to it and worked hard to trade for a bor .

Now after that 10 month break I came back for torment and to see what these masters were about and to see if drops had changed much .

Ack , still no currency drops , not much to trade with so haven't really bothered , beginning to detest trading just to get anywhere , masters aren't all that but a help indeed , seems like it will take me forever to get to lvl 8 , so if I do stay I will probably stay in standard for a while , because I would rather chew my own foot off than level the masters again .

Still not had a decent drop .

Did I say no currency dropping either .

So yeah , I can't craft with the big boys and that's always at the back of my mind , seems I will always be behind the curve unless by some odd chance , something huge will drop to enable me to get some currency .

I'm sorry , I'm not a hardcore trader so I'm knackered when it comes to crafting etc :/

ROFL @ Hardcore in this game . ALT F4 for FTW . Hardcore my arse .
All my friends quit, because:
- Desync.
- Boring end-game.
- Nerfs.
Everyone I know (including myself) stopped playing PoE a while ago because of:

1. ** Desync ** <--- #1 Main Reason
2. Waiting for Act IV (won't bother to come back if desync isn't fixed)
i wish i could post stories about friends quitting the game , thing is i dont even get them to give this game a try :(
Can't even get my friends to play XD. Reason: internet here (philippines) sucks, hearing the word Garena is a bad omen, so they play mobile games instead.

edit: i actually tried to install garena twice since the lag for me is unbearable even with Singapore server. But the garena installer is always gets corrupted once i run it ( garena servers is probably full of vaal orbs ).

I feel your pain man... i've got the same expirience from trying to convince my LoL-playing friends to give HoN a single try :(

To chime in on the topic: i have a friend who previously played D3, then tried out PoE and became hooked for a season and 1/2.

Since he was pretty sure "he knows what he's doing" from his expirience in D3, he insisted on making and following his own builds... You can imagine how well that went ;)

Anyway, a couple of months ago he bought an SSD hard drive and had a much better playing expirience with PoE, but then he tried out a couple of his other beloved games and that in turn got him so enthralled, that he stopped playing Poe for now and is playing other games instead.

On the other hand me, my guildmates and my girlfriend still play and we recently got a new guildmember who just started playing, so not much was lost in the grand scheme of things :)
