yeah your character will never be considered higher than level 68 for this which saves you from penalty in all maps.

Ive seen lots of ex orbs drop from breakables/lootable chests and random white mobs rares and bosses. if i had to guess id say ive seen a few dozen drop overall i stopped keeping track once i figured my luck was good lol. one thing id suggest is to NOT EVER SKIP ANY chests/pots/barrels etc. Even if theyre really out of your way go open em you may be pleasantly surprised. Cant tell you how many times ive seen that chest that's a huge detour away pop open and drop an ex or high level map or something unique.

Whats really awesome is when herald of thunder nails a pot that is hidden from view by the screen angle and an ex drops lol.

OPEN ANY AND ALL CHESTS/POTS/BARRELS/CRATES/CORPSES THAT YOU CAN SEE ON THE SCREEN.

No level penalty for shopping, only for those radicals that kill beasties.

I'd say best way is to run 75+IIQ 66 maps and lot's of them.

With your lvl 100guy in normal mud flats

Best place to farm exalted orbs is other players stashes (ie trading).

They drop anywhere, but it's an extremely low chance. It's less about going out and looking for them as it is hoping that one comes to you. As others have mentioned, currency drops are penalized if you are a higher level than the zone.

The only reliable way to get them is to trade heavily.

I heard fishing gives a higher bonus chance on finding exalts.
