CPU or GPU

Buy a new computer. That system is multiple generations old, and trying to upgrade the GPU will just cause your CPU to bottleneck the system. Get an SSD. Your load times will be almost instant with an SSD installed.

I know SSDs are awesome (both solid state drives AND super star destroyers) but i dont have one and I still am usually the first person in the zone when my whole party zones...i always thought of them as a luxury and not necessary
SSD's are like 50-60 cents a GB, you're telling me you can't afford a 60gb SSD as a boot drive to receive 30 second boot times and have really fast loading times on your favorite games? Look, if this guy is thinking about an upgrade, an SSD is a great place to start. Check the market man, it's no longer a premium price to own a 60-240GB SSD anymore.

Keep in mind, when you upgrade a gfx card, make sure it can fit in your case, and make sure your power supply is putting out enouh juice to support it.

Current generation GPU's are so power efficient every single GPU core card can run fine on a 500W PSU. Yes, even a GTX 780.

Lol yea...My 8800 was so old I had to upgrade TO a 500watt. Just covering all the bases...

Honestly though I didnt know ssds had become so cheap. I also heard a while ago they had much shorter lifespans, but I assume that is no longer the case as well.

CPU is much more important for this game than GPU. Especially if your fps drops in parties than that's mostly due to your CPU.

What? Care to elaborate?

The single most important piece of hardware for all games is the GPU. All the graphics is done on the GPU, even physichs calculations are done on GPU nowadays (not that PoE has any physics).

Since PoE doesnt contain any complex AI / simulations, or anything that would require specific CPU power and arhitecture, I say this claim is false.

That said, OP should buy a new comp entirely.
When night falls
She cloaks the world
In impenetrable darkness
RAM, like 8go is enough anyway, and then you put POE on a virtual drive on it...

then you will get something really nice imo ;)

Neither, get a supporter pack first :P

Good1 =D
I got a quadcore 2.5 with overclock at 3.1, yet this game still lags like shit on my integrated card (cuz I can't switch to my dedicated, the option is grayed out due to lack of optimization). So yah, GPU first.

SSD is such a godsend for this game. I would't consider any sort of upgrade for PoE play purposes without one.

Also, yes, Internet Connection does trump all, but sometimes, you don't have much control over that. Too many factors to make it a simple 'upgrade'.

I never used a SSD in my life. My Path of Exile is currently in a RAID 0 of two WD Caviar Blacks and everything loads in a second.
I'm in an abusive relationship with life. It keeps beating the hell out of me and I'm too cowardly to leave it.
