The simultaneous development of POE1 and POE2 isnt working
Im sorry to say it, but i think its not working.
It might work if both games are finished and just need new leagues, but one of the games is in mostly experimental mode and needs more frequent updates. The 0.3.1 Patch fucked up so many things from ritual tablet droprate to newly generated maps having absolute shit droprates. And some more stuff thats not actually broken but just weird. Random Content, Boss on every map, bosses are stronger than pinnacles. Its a rushed [Removed by Support] patch that should never made it to live. But it had to make it to live, because POE1 is in focus of development to get the league ready for live. As long as POE2 is in early access and not a full game this approach to development is not sustainable. Both games will suffer from that. “The bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to make me tame.” Dernière édition par Alzucard#2422, le 20 oct. 2025 à 07:02:52 Dernier bump le 20 oct. 2025 à 20:50:26

I was thinking today about the amount of work maintaining two games at such a pace might be. In the past they only had to do one league every three months but now it's one league every two months, with one being in a game that needs a huge amount of things fixed every patch aside from new content
People expect every patch to be as large and as good as 0.3 at the very least, and I do wonder if it's realistic to keep this up for an extended period of time. Right now they just started with this model so everything is fine, but what about in the near future |

It was a very optimistic timeframe they provided to their community for game completion. That being said, unless you have terminal cancer, enjoy the wait. It’s gonna be 2 more years.

" I think I remember Jonathan saying last time that they want 3 good leagues before releasing. 0.3 was one, 0.4 possibly another which is December, then 0.5 possibly another which is like April? Then release would be on August, but August sounds pretty bad for release date, in which case... December next year? Sounds alright to me if they can keep up this pace of content |

They have 2 players bases now. It was mean to happen when they released a second version.
It's surely not easy, but they need to take care of both. And on our side we need comprehension. It's just a game we can wait a bit i think. It's not like they're stopping the development. SSF player

Well, the alternative to double development during this creation period would be just abandoning PoE1 altogether until PoE2 releases.
So I'm gonna go ahead and say double development is the better choice. |

Both games going to suffer.

I've been saying it's snake oil for about 3 years now.
It was painfully obvious seeing the drop in league quality in PoE1 well before PoE2 was released. They also have no reason to compete with themselves. PoE2 is the new game. Even if they have to copy + paste everything from PoE1 to make the majority happy. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

The fact that there are still people out there legitimately convinced that they're going to continue fully supporting both titles moving forward is absolutely wild.
Even if it were entirely up to Jonathan or GGG, no studio in their right mind is ever going to support two titles simultaneously that directly compete with one another - but we know it's not entirely up to them and Tencent sure af isn't going to sign off on that model. I know there are PoE1 diehards who are fully convinced that these games are servicing two entirely different demographics with zero overlap, but it's just a fantasy. I loved PoE1 and played it for years but you guys have to see the writing on the wall and not get your hopes up about a future that's not coming. I think GGG will do their best to keep PoE1 going - they won't stop releasing content but it's going to take longer to come out and be of lower quality as they slowly divert the studio's focus to 2. My only hope is that people let PoE1 go gracefully and don't drag GGG through the mud for making the only rational decision anyone should ever expect them to make in this situation. |
