I find him risky, as well. I keep a list of areas and their bosses, and if I'm going to run a waystone on an area that has him as a boss, I usually use a lower level waystone.

It might help to show who the boss is for an area, on the atlas map. That way, players feel more prepared and less ambushed by the game.

Well. That’s a good tip. You have some lists for this?

The monkey's in Riverside. Not listed, but the sky seer is in Cenotes.
SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

Monkey is also in Rupture and one of the new ice maps (though the ice map is quite rare).
Ice Caves - monkey in Yeti form

I do not and will not use TFT.

I use poe2db when i'm unsure. You can type the area and you see the boss name and can click on the boss to see him stats.
Mostly doing it cause i got lucky with rakiata flow so i check them resistance to see if i swap or not.

Monkey is so random when you arrive in the arena, depending where he spawn you can just get slam before to see him. So i also use a lower tier waystone for him or a white map.
Same for the digsite boss that is bugged, forgot him name, the high priest.

I'm one of the many running around with the atlas points to allocate blicking in the bottom since last update =)
No shame to it dont worry.
SSF player
Player: Gets new gear, becomes stronger, progresses to become the most powerful character. Mobs turn to dust, and bosses can’t last five seconds in your presence.
The Monkey: BONK!
Dont really have an issue with the slam..I got the tining for dodging on him pretty well.

This. Honestly speaking I don’t have so hard times with bosses and even can usually kill the monkey also quite handily, but seems sometimes the bonk just hits you even if you seem to have evaded it, this time it felt to me like my character somehow got pulled back under the slam.
Dude WHAT?

That gorilla is one of the best bosses in the game. Perfectly telegraphed attacks and easy to counter with dodging or kiting. But still requires that you pay attention and execute the timing well. The timing window is pretty generous too.

No ground effect bs.

No on-death bs.

No visual noise/clutter.

No badly telegraphed instakill AOE attacks.

No invulnerability state.

I wish every boss was like this.

The problem is that fighting this boss is pure roulette.
He doesn’t kill you because you made two or three mistakes in a row.
He doesn’t kill you because your build is weak or your gear is bad.
He kills you because you made one mistake.

Every time I face him, I know there’s no real skill requirement or deep understanding of his mechanics. You just have to press space at the right time in the right direction — that’s it.
When you have experience with bosses, you know what to do to avoid dying.
With the Monkey, you also know what to do — but it doesn’t help. You’re just playing roulette.

What’s at stake is your progress: 10% of your experience if you fail, or zero loot if you win.
So I just choose to clear the map and move on to another one without killing this boss.
