What's the point of spending 100s hrs building your character to eventually ditch it?!

The depressing part about this game, is the fact that you will eventually ditch your character for a new league after spending 100s of hours tuning and tweaking your build for perfection, then you realize that all your work were aimless and worthless.

I really can't understand what's the point of such system in these games! (same as Diablo 4). you are missing a great potential.

POE 2 team, you truly made the best RPG here, but to me its a game that I will enjoy once, maybe twice, then delete. There is no point of repeating same game (leagues) with little changes and enemies in new skins, and spend 100 more hrs to make the best character, for what? Take photo with it then delete... really?!

Please don't tell me that I can still play in the standard world, because no one is online there.

Why make new leagues instead of adding to the standard world?
Why the game has no competitive element or any engagement with other players except as co-op? We are all online and see each other, but its just a facade with nothing engaging.

Old fans like this endless loop of grinding, crafting, take photo with your character and delete.. but how about a continuous world with competitive challenges where we don't repeat but progress? and actually use our characters whom we invested 100s of hrs building to help us defeat these challenges and compete with each other. This can truly bring more fans to the game when it has this online competitiveness element.

How about:
- Challenges/ Missions to defend a map (invasion of OP hordes) where we join other players to play, and winner team receive special rewards. Encouraging rewards that make us strategize and engage with each other in teams to win.

- Players against an army of bosses, the team with highest number wins unique rewards.

- last team standing challenges.

- A gladiator-like arena to fight (pvp) but with equal set of gear and balanced atmosphere, or team vs team. you could be creative and put lions in the arena like in The Gladiator movie :)

Such games will make it super fun, and give our characters a reason to be preserved and have a purpose to keep progressing, rather than being a photo model for photo shoot. In fact, this makes one willing to play new leagues in order to create several builds of different classes/ sub-classes to use each one of them for each of these challenges.

POE2 is an amazing RPG, but its truly missing a great potential to be the greatest game ever where we can play it forever.

EDIT: I AM NOT ASKING TO REMOVE SEASONS SYSTEM, I AM SUGGESTING TO ADD NEW IDEAS ALLOWING TO PLAY IN SAME CHARACTER IF YOUU LIKE AND ENGAGE WITH OTHERS. SEASON'S CULT STOP REPEATING YOURSELF. YOUUR SEASON GOD WILL REMAIN.

your character is moved to standard league and you are free to work on a forever character there
These are some good points, especially around PVP and creating mini-games where we fight in teams. Right now, 99% of the players are playing this game single player. POE2 is a single player game with a chatbox.

I tried grouping up with 2 friends and we had so many effects I had no idea what was going on. Is that my friends headhunter going off or the monsters on-death effects? The frame rate dropped so much as well and it is a pain to split loot. I rather loot dropped specifically for each of us thats others dont have to see. I think they have this system in D3 or D4? Not sure.

The only point I disagree with is new leagues every 4 months....ARPG's are like this so you will have to create new characters in most of these games regardless.
It's just how this particular game works, dude. If you want a game that works differently, they certainly exist. There are all sorts of games that work in all sorts of different ways and can I just say for the sake of your personal health that you should absolutely not find it so upsetting and frustrating that this one particular game happens to work in a way that's a little different than you would prefer.

Some games work some ways and other games work other ways. This game works this way. Based on how upset you are about it, I think your best bet is to find a game that works in a way that's less offensive to you because GGG isn't going to redesign their product around you like you're just one dude.

Its called feedback forum, if you are too sensitive and was raised that speaking opinions is "offensive" and "upsetting" then you need to grow up. I am not asking for a new game rather an engaging feature to play with others and keep my character for a purpose. If that's too hard for you to understand, then try reading.

In future, you can simply say you I don't like the idea without the fantastic assumptions you pulled out of your... life is easy

You are right, I am not asking to remove leagues but to add fun games, and maybe make standard league also fun for playing with others. I see leagues as a way to try new class and experiment with new build, which is fine. Only if that build can also continue to be used on other games would make it even greator.
There are 3 very simple and important reasons I can think of as to why league and restarts are good for the game.

1: economy reset. Should be self explanatory.

2: progression is fun. Whats the point of farming on a maxed out OP character? you essentially arent getting rewarded with anything. As opposed to progression on a new character which entails levelling up, frequently getting better items, new skills, etc. Sure on an OP character, you are dropping a lot of currency... but so? at some point, you'll need to farm for a week for a minor upgrade. you might kill a pinnacle boss in 12.5 seconds instead of 13 afterwards. The improvements become so small that it doesnt feel fun to play anymore. It seems like most people dont realize the journey of progression in games itself is fun.

3: competition. at league start you are competing against other players, including streamers and friends. Everybody is on an even playing field.

Also just want to note the new leagues are when most people play path of exile and probably where GGG makes most of their money. late league concurrent player counts are historically less than half of league launch counts, sometimes even less than 10%. People like coming back for new leagues.

A few years ago chris wilson said maybe only 10-15% of players play standard league.

I would actually love to play standard league but there are multiple issues.

1) it's dead. Nobody else really plays it, there's barely a functioning economy there.

2) GGG changes builds and mechanics between seasons. All my standard characters don't work anymore because I'm a dirty meta bitch. So I need to adjust them heavily now, which is hard because of #1

3) no new league mechanics. Unfortunately GGG introduces new mechanics to standard leagues only after the current league is over (as far as I know??) so you're always going to play outdated content

Matter of fact is that without economy resets, new players would probably never be able to pick this game up. Inflation would be so bad that nobody new could afford anything since gear would be so expensive in comparison to how much currency can naturally drop, you would essentially be forced to play ssf as a beginner - which is very difficult.

I've been trying to come up with a solution for this for years and I can find no answer. The industry can't either. That's why we have seasons

Edit: personally, I'd LOVE to have some kind of carry over reward for completing a season though. Each season should introduce a new final boss that, once cleared on T4, unlocks a permanent seasonal cosmetic set. That way you have more of a hard goal to aim towards and something that will carry over from season to season.

After full release, they will be. Once there's a lot of stable content in Standard, there will be players who want more continuity, and don't want to test new content. It's even more significant in SSF. I have a job and play SSF, so I almost exclusively played Standard SSF in PoE1 because I wanted to chase uniques and Divination Cards, and I didn't have enough time to do that in just 4 months.
SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.
