I really dont understand how defences work in this game
The only viable defense mechanic in PoE (1 and 2) is to one shot everything on two screens before you even see them
Anything else will never prevent every one shots even if you were to take every single defensive node in the game and have multi mirror gear because they dev the game so that players can't be immortal in any way possible |

" And GGG keeps providing us with skills to do just that, and then wonder why 60% playerbase is playing 1 build. What confuses me the most in GGG strategy is not even their infinite stubbornness with keeping outdated exp penalty (and trying to push 1-death maps on top which only cost them a large chunk of players in the end), but how they keep stepping on the same rake with skill design. For nearly 15 years soon. Guys, you coded lightning spear, you tested it, didn't you realize the auto-targeting corner-curving long-ranged attack is THE most desirable thing in your game? You made it so yourself. Anything less and you fall behind on loot/economy, you get 0.1 sec oneshots more often, you get trolled on these forums by "git gud" masters who firmly sit on meta builds themselves. Never had I seen other developer so headstrong with their 1 design concept, who only backs down slightly in cases of massive player outrage:) |

" Umm I feel pretty damn immortal vs other games. I love the weapon switching, parry is awesome for dex players I promise! But I'm the kind of guy who's played Ultima Online, that game will test a person haha My only fun with immortality has been with season 1-2 league of legends Singed, well immortal while running away and leaving poison... |

" If I remember you correctly from other posts, you are playing the only functional defenses combination: EV+ES+GS. Try playing armor or ES without evasion where every small hit interrupts recharge, won't be as immortal. I would play dex/int class myself, it worked in poe1 too, but Scion is gone and Monk model is... not my cup of tea. If Shadow turns out to be not a reskinned monk, maybe later, but not holding my breath. Edit: honestly they should rework default recharge mechanic. Instead of completely stopping recharge, make incoming hits seriously slow it down depending on magnitude of the hit. It looks silly when your immense 10+k shield gets stopped by tiny poke from 1 half-dead white mob. Dernière édition par Echothesis#7320, le 5 mai 2025 à 11:27:29

" Not just that, but other playstyles actively punished too. That sentence from the interview still triggers me... "players just prefer glasscannons" NO!!!! I am punished to be a "tank". Endgame mechanics are rush speedruns: delirium, breech are tell you to F off if you walk or kill slowly. Rituals and expedition will overwhelm you if you don't kill fast enough. Combo mechanics? If you don't kill the enemies in 1 seconds you're already dead. Trying out a few alternative skills. A dot for 5 seconds? C'mon. :D Theres the suicide gem (dauntess maybe?) where your skill hits more if you STAND STILL! And I made a topic just for [Vengeful Fury] Rage also gives extra armour. 4 skillpoints, berserker spirit gem (increase rage effect by 45%) and you get 350 extra armour as a full "tank" Numbers wide 6.5k armor went up to 6.85. So it only counts the base armour. Wonder what will that mitigate... Points freed up and went for the Brute Strength instead... At least I get more hp and like 20% more dmg globally not just able to withstand against a dust particle from a fart. (the skill only good against physical attacks) |

" It appears like they want players who rely on ES greatly to use a unique or two specifically on that to bolster it and its certainly clear that in the passives they want people to use "Faster start of ES recharge" and you could argue that's boring skill point usage (mmm yea). I don't know what to think on it because there's too many niche's on builds I don't know about, ES is like meant to have some pretty severe weaknesses because you can really be as safe for a duration as a shield+mace lover I guess but yea, that playstyle vs many T15+ regular mobs, its a lot of poke...all I can say is... walls/minions take a lot of attention and/or some crazy amped up casting speed on some circulating cc spell is all I would do if I was in a true mage situation without the evasion addition I've always relied on. " Of course, choosing one of recharge kickstart methods is the only reason my char had been viable at all. But these "recharge starts when..." modifiers are unique-only, and pigeonholing people into specific uniques (which won't drop without trade) just to get the core defense functional is another textbook example of poorly balanced combat. The core character archetypes should work FIRST, then various exotic gimmicks are built on top of them to enhance performance for tedious fans. With GGG, it is ass backwards as usual: content is balanced around you already having advanced gimmicks, while default core mechanics are a noob bait:) New players don't know about all those game-changing modifiers on items, it is not explained anywhere. They try provided passive tree, fail, and quit. Dernière édition par Echothesis#7320, le 5 mai 2025 à 12:43:14

" +1 I often request that most uniqes power should come by "freeing" up skillpoints. Ie: thorn build is completely useless without the Pale King (thorn is reflected at any damage, not just melee hit) It should be a skillpoint on the tree. You think this unique would be a gamebraker, yet there is a limit of how far you can take it. Especially because after a while you lost out much stat from a high item. I was stuck around t8 maps, but because I used a unique boot that gave decompostion on walking. Quite fun. I put armour brake on poison gems to it. But after a point I just could not afford to have that extra gimmick and replaced boot that gave movement speed, elemental res stats. Now t13 maps are my new brick wall But makes me think: Is there a point I have to sacrifice Pale King because the value of thrown reflect will be "outweighed" by a high item stat? Bro got into ARPGs and wanted to tank-
Yo, hate to tell you, but this is a game about killing stuff, not bending over and taking it bareback for as long as you like it. Both Poe1 and 2 have literal afk unkillable builds that still dish out damage. Meanwhile you're whining about low level uniques and how some armor isn't saving you as if you started playing yesterday. Maybe it's time to admit that numbers aren't your strong suit and just follow a fecking guide. If there is one thing this game doesn't need, it's for any loser to only pick up defensive nodes on the tree and expecting to never die and for all content to just patiently wait for 1 hour till you crawl through it. That will surely make the game better. |

" How is that remotely a bad thing? I have no interest in playing a game where that isn't the case. |
