GGG this just isn't it. I can't understand your thinking.

Most painless way to level atm is just picking up currency maybe iding rares for gold and the slim possibility of a good roll, and converting to ex to trade for leveling gear on the trade site.

5-10 ex worth of decent 1-2ex leveling items will make acts about 2-3x easier.

Trading should not be the solution to completing campaign outside of twink uniques.

The campaign needs to flow without trading.

Go make a character in poe1 and play slams through the campaign. Make a weapon in act 1 and try to bring it to kill kitava in act 5. Thats what poe2 campaign is like.

Now use the tools poe1 has, and vendor recipe a weapon every time you get into a new act. Then report back that experience. I promise it will be 100x better to use the basic vendor recipe for a 1 mod weapon.

You can get lucky in poe2 if you get a good item from a vendor.

The only 2 items that matter if youre playing a mace warrior is your weapon and your boots. You can easily complete the campaign with blue 1 mod items outside of those 2 slots.

I ripped my spear char in a3 cruel and havent touched that since but it felt really smooth once i got the accuracy damage node and i ended up with an insane spear with almost 400 accuracy. Without that weapon it felt like playing ruthless on a 1l.

I'm not saying the campaign is impossible as it is now. But making it really slow, tedius, and terrible gear upgrading paths is just not fun to me.

That's it. I feel like some parts of the POE2 philosophy could be great but currently its just not fun.

Game is explicitly built with trade as a central pillar. If you don't like trade fine, but that's how it is.

So basically the game is Pay to Win since you actually need to pay money to use the trade site. And also it's the worst kind of design to make something a "central pillar" that requires you to alt-tab out of the game.

Technically you can make correctly formatted forum posts that will appear on the trade site for free. That's how mirror crafters list gear that they actively have equipped.

But that is cumbersome for sure. I'd still call it pay to play, not pay to win. Spend 10 bucks and buy a stash tab and you're set. Buying 50 more stashes has such significant diminishing returns you can't just spend more and more to do better. So P2P, not P2W.
I've already quit this league. I might come back in 0.3 if they fix it. But this vision for POE2 is god awful.

I want to play a meta build and feel powerful and get good drops. That's why I play POE. If that's not the vision, then this isn't the game for me. And I don't think I'm alone.

QFT. This is an economy and trade based game at its absolute core. Explicity stated as such by GGG for the entire time they've been a company.

If you don't want to play an economy trading game, there are other options. This suggestion always sounds like complaining that there's farming in Stardew Valley to me.

It is true that is what GGG say, and yet they design a specifically story driven game with no in game reference to trading between players and no in-game support for such. They also say they want item drops to be meaningful whilst designing them to be abundant and trash.

The actions do not match the words, so you can understand how people might become confused and annoyed.

I'll definitely agree that the trade website should be in an embedded browser accessible from an NPC. I'm open to the making other changes of they cost, but otherwise I'm petty happy with the system. Which may make me an exception.

It doesn't help that their idea of trade is an idealized rose tinted memory of forum trading in D2. They imagined you'd only be trading the best of the best items. But people built tools to scrape the forums and they felt their hand was forced to create the trade website. It's probably time for them to make another big improvement for sure.
They want to make a souls game for ARPG players... its not going to work.
