Game needs a radical shift in direction

it won't happen. they learned nothing and they feel they are the best and better then everyone else at it to take any suggestions.

Sadly, this feels like it's true. And it's reinforced on the forums. I fully believed that we'd be getting a new game. Not just Call of Path of Exile, Modern Warfare 2. Same game, but different story and maps, and some new guns.

I see most older PoE 1 players asking for basically the same mechanics. Delves, End-game map spamming, currency/crafting, economy as PoE 1, even XP loss on death.

Feels like a complete waste of time to me, if all players wanted was a slightly different, but overall same feeling game as PoE 1. What a waste of millions of man-hours, re-creating essentially the same overall game.

I don't get why POE2 even exists.
It's just poe1 3.0.

YUP!

And everyone is stuck on asking for essentially all the same mechanics from PoE 1.

Even going so far as to flame people on the forums when they ask for the new game to deviate from the old. I love having numerous people call me a bad player because I'm saying we can improve or change the game, rather than just slapping an XP loss on death on it.

easy answer: poe 2 is supposed to be poe1 with some changes to key mechanics. then they fell for feature creep during development, pretty common in companies that grew too fast and it looks like a different game.

but it's not

I just view it as an opportunity to create a new game. Take a chance and make some radical changes. We might end up with two amazing games. Rather than one that is essentially a replacement for the old one now.

Feels like a complete waste of time and money, and separation if this doesn't happen. Making two very similar games.

According to Jonathan, "the decision was made when the dev team realized that the original approach would "essentially be destroying a game that people love for no reason." The result is that Path of Exile 1 and 2 will be separate, with their own "mechanics, balance, endgames, and leagues." "

However, we have not really seen much evidence of this yet, which is probably why the one's who want an expansion see this as an expansion, and the one's who want a new game continue to push for a new game.

The main issue I see is lack of communication from the devs on what core mechanics will be changed for 2.

The way I see it, if they keep external trading, lack of good loot, lack of end-game progression (all artificial gating to slow things), and lack of good end-game (post-max level) content. We still just end up with a PoE expansion.

I hope that's not what is planned, but I highly suspect that it is.

That's very much what it's looking like. Especially given the emphasis on Leagues, as well as what the game is right now.

They need to differentiate, or embrace this as a update/expansion and eventual successor to PoE 1. At this point though, continuing to copy mechanics from PoE 1, isn't leading to a differentiated game.

Clear communication on the direction over the next few months would be nice, because it would set expectations.

I am however, not seeing the point of having two very similar PoE games. Especially when they're refusing to make one more accessible to players, and continuing down the path of adding things like XP loss on death, which is clear that a huge chunk of the playerbase hates.
They put a lot of work into the artistic aspect. Had they simply released a paid DLC for PoE1 that updated the graphics I bet everyone who played PoE1 would have bought it.

I think they found they were doing a lot of work and it wasn't going to get them any money, so they devised a plan to make a 2nd game and charge for EA. Unfortunately, this meant they needed to half-ass pretty much all the systems(gems, atlas, copying mechanics but a bit differently, etc) so the result is a beautiful but bad game.

Hopefully they take their time and fix things right and EA takes as long as it needs to(3-4 years?) so that this thing becomes something enjoyable. But the lack of communication, real transparency, and most importantly - progress - is very disheartening.

We've had some transparency, and some direction.

But it overall just feels pointless to have two very similar PoE games. One will be seen as superior, and then everyone gets that fomo feeling and quits the game for the new one that everyone else is playing.

This happens in almost every single game thats ever tried this. I am not happy with this outcome. And the players wanting PoE 2 to be more like PoE 1 are just asking for this to happen.

Gaming is about player enjoyment and innovation. Not creating game cycles that keep players stuck in cycles of repetition, time-waste. More and more people are wanting to return to the roots of gaming. Where a game was made with passion, and a sole attempt at providing players the best experience possible. They're sick of microtransactions, They're sick of forced grinding just to pad game time, and they're sick of communities that end up toxic, and competitive because they're the only people being catered to.

Yes, yes and double yes! Least amount of fun i have ever had in an aarpg. All the basics are gone. I want to feel powerful, pick up cool loot and progress without manufactured difficulty for difficulty's sake.
OP got swarmed by two trolls within three posts. Sorry dude, these forums are awful.
