Naming characters Feedback

There are problems to this.

"
Let's say your name is "CoCenjoyer" and someone else thinks the name is funny and takes it too. Now two "CoCenjoyer" exist.

Still not the same unique account with identifier.

"
If the other player now does scummy stuff like scamming ppl in trades or something similar - most ppl wouldn't know who it actually was.
Was the scammer you or someone else with the EXACT same name?

If the scammer is reported, they're reported as that unique identifier.

"
Ppl could make posts about you, ruining your credibility/reputation, that could lead to harassment when you did nothing wrong yadda yadda.

You'll notice a unique identifier next to each of our handles in the forum. Easy to point out.

"
You probably get the problem, but there is even something else...

If two players have the same name - how would the game know who you want to interact with?

That's what parties/friends lists are for.

"
You find a great item on trade sold by "NiceItemSeller" and want to whisper him, but 10 different "NiceItemSeller" exist... so you are unable to contact the right one.
Sure, this could be solved with an "identification number" like "NiceItemSeller#0001" and "NiceItemSeller#0002", but not everyone wants a number next to their name.

It doesn't have to show the number. The game code just has to link your whisper to that account with unique identifier.

"
Furthermore, it would be impossible to track a scammer down.
If you got scammed by someone and want to report them here, on Reddit, TFT or whatever to warn others - you could not find out their account anymore.

Example, if "ScammerKiddie420" scammed you in a trade, you can type "/whois ScammerKiddie420" and get his character information like class/level AND his account name.
But when multiple characters with the same name exist - you never find out who it was.

Fortunately, half that problem is solved by the requirement to mouse over the item before you can click "accept". Plus, their username that you whispered to is in the chat history, so a right click and report function could be added. Then GGG can see all of that info you just said and take action.

This doesn't have to be as complicated as you suggest. Simple, practical steps can make this happen. You present a lot of "what if", but for every negative "what if", there's a positive one. Maybe flip this on it's head and give it a try.

I appreciate that you took the time to make such a comment, but firstly, everything you mention is already addressed in this post where we "solved" the ID tag conversation, and secondly, you need to remove a /quote somewhere so your comment works properly.

There's one very good reason why this would be a horrible idea.

Tell me, which of the 15,000 "JohnWick" players you saw in trade chat was the one that scammed you?

Did you mouse over the item first to verify it's what you wanted to buy? If not, then you weren't scammed. You made a dumb mistake and clicked too quickly.

I played with it, but it wouldn't have notified you if I took out the quote directing your name to it.

I figure you got the point of what I was saying.

As far as "solved", it doesn't seem that way. Seems opinions are still divided, and it also seems like some dissenters of the idea aren't thinking the options through well enough.

I mean, we already talked about the ID next to the name for ppl with the same name...

We did, yet there were still some that kept insinuating that it would be "confusing" in various ways.

Cutting to the chase of why I'm in favor of using the identifier to be unique is that I'm a big fan of creating a vision of your fantasy to play out. If you see a warrior big and tall, being a wrecking ball on the field, you should be able to name him Juggernaut if you want. A spark sorceress named Storm? Why not? It's our time, it's our dime. We should have the maximum enjoyment possible. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
