Class gender locks still? This is not the way

This game has no Gandalf, no Elminster, no Raistlin, no Merlin, no Dumbledor, no Harry Potter, no Pug.

I've played PoE 1 the last week in preparation, with a Templar as somebody "close-ish" in the tree, but the 6 gender locked early access classes and their ascendendies are even further away for what I look to play in a fantasy RPG. I'm pretty mainstream with that.

With a game so agile in terms of class and skills, can anyone explain to me why the easiest restriction-fix of all, class gender-lock, didn't get fixed in PoE 2?

Because, unlike many other games, PoE's characters are not just a blank slate. They each have their own unique story, their own voice actors with a lot of lines, etc...

If the characters weren't gender locked, then they would require double the effort to create, for very little gain. GGG simply doesn't think the effort would be worth it.

Aside from disagreeing because I'm a programmer that has done RPG programming (not an ARPG, I admit), I can use my common sense to note that almost nothing of my Templar story in PoE 1 was gender specific - certainly nowhere near the point of "double the work".
The effort required to balance a skill tree and end-game as massive as this game has, makes the effort of a protagonist gender option almost inconsequential. Period.

if you place importance on "their own unique story", then differentiation with a gender option only makes it more unique.

The importance is being placed on "their own unique story" not yours of which you can craft and shape how you like. The fact this is so important to you is actually eye opening. You are choosing to play the role of a story character in a video game, if you don't like an aspect of who that character is then choose a different one. The stats/starting location etc should be inconsequential to you.

I dislike DEI and Woke and for the same reason I dont feel nice playing male characters so I never get to play merc monk or warrior

I dislike anime games, but I'm not bitching to the Genshin devs to add realistic models to their game. Just play something else.

What part from my post is bitching?

The...entire quoted part? It's just got all the "Do you know who my father is?!" vibes. Your extremely personal views on DEI and "woke" (and your usage of said terms being an entirely different story) should not be a defining factor for a game company to develop around...and you act as if they're not LETTING you play other classes.

You can't build a wall then bitch you can't walk through it.
Srsly 99 % of all players dont care about that. Stop bringing up this topic.
Its really enough that we have this stupid topic in real life.

3 % of all people try to influence 97 % of all humans life.

Live how you want but stop to influence other life's

Never had any issue with any gender lock in any game. I also dont understand why people have a problem with that.
Lets take skyrim for example. People customise their character to an insane degree and then u dont see your own character 90% of the time. He does not even speak.
Nobody cares about The Witcher being genderlocked.
There's a lot of projecting one's views onto others ITT. This thread is evidence that some players don't like the classes being gender-locked. If one truly doesn't care about such a thing, why then do they post in a thread discussing it, claiming that no one cares?

Is it a deal-breaker that I'm not able to in some games? No, absolutely not.
Looking at your signature I somehow doubt that statement.

Also as people said before - each class is its own character with a backstory, unique voicelines and interactions with NPCs and bosses. It's double the rigging work, MORE THAN double the voice work (each character has 2 classes, each class has unique voice lines, unique interactions with NPCs, unique interactions with bosses, as well as certain ascendancies having their own unique interactions), more story work (because you can't just blindly change gender in dialogues - it has to make sense in the world). And all of that for literally no benefit - you only see your character on character selection screen and a lot of the time you won't even see character because it's covered in armor.

Out of the 1000's of actual core gameplay issues and unfinished systems this game has having a different gender for my character is pretty close to the bottom. Imagine genuinely caring about this as a game design issue
bet you'd like to input pronouns as well.
