You are comparing zealotry to envy, which at the end of the day they are both good but the primary issue is we already have a plan to run zealotry in our build and our auras have more effect then the NPC's.

You also aren't accounting for the debuffs that are applied to the enemy that make you stronger.

For that merc you are granting like 20% more spell damage and maybe a small shock effect that scales with the damage of the toon that applies it. Which in this case wouldn't be that much.

while a chaos mercenary will apply wither to enemies pretty reliably. Which is a scaling 6% modifier each time its applied. And mercs can APPLY ALOT REALLY FAST.


But remember at the end of the day its however you prefer to play or who you would prefer to play with. A shock/zealotry combo sounds pretty deadly. If you can think of a way to add wither into that then you may have yourself a god of mercenaries.

Your mercenary with the unique "Abhorrent Interrogation" would be a banger.

Its a late game aura. It will be the aura you go for after your malevolence if you want to aim for that damage increase.

You'll need the corrupted implicit on your helmet, 2 enlightens, charisma on amulet and a 35% effect cluster jewel. You may need 2 35% effect clusters, Also remember you can de-level your clarity to gain some mana back incase you dont have enough to cast soulrend (You do this by selling the gem itself + a orb of scouring to a vender).

I didn't even think of the dying breath unique I may end up throwing that on my guy too! Thanks for the tip 😁

So just found a new cruel mistress.... Game changer.

She has Enzy and zealotry! Gave her shapers seed, dying breath, and a belt that has zealotry 20% + effect.

Massive increase. Amazing merc.

Switched to trade league as progress was painfully slow in the private league this time.
I only need the clusters now and I'm ready to switch to the CI version.

How do you craft them yourself? Harvest reforge spam?

First of all thanks for guide and answering question. My experience this league has been great so far, mostly following your guide, still I would like to hear your thoughts on some things.

While leveling/early maps I used a merch with enduring cry to gain endurance charges and a bit later a small cluster with enduring ward prior to the impossible escape.

"life and mana on kill against cursed enemies" feels really nice while mapping also after grabbing mark of submission / curse on hit ring. Mana sustain is no problem with this, only vs bosses.

- the mentioned node for recover mana on kill
- grabbed a brutal restraint instead of a lethal pride. dex vs. str and also got "chance to gain a frenzy charge on kill" and aura effect. Atleast while mapping this is a nice damage boost.
- went with a watcher's eye with reduced crit damage to gain 99% crit reduction (need to roll the WE for >=50%). I have a reduced crit aegis aurora ready to switch to more damage focused WE. Especially with reckless Defence this could be nice.
- Experimented a bit to fit culling strike. Ended up with culling strike linked to chaos golem. The mana increase for tempest shield is not worth it imho.
- Also Withering Step with Automation and Second wind (for reduced cdr). It should trigger often enough, while not casting.
-Edit: Missed one more thing. "Runegraft of the Fortress" grants 40% inc global defences for 10% reduced attributes.

(For the level 2 Enlighten. I failed twice in the temple.)

Also for "crafting" the body armour with +level, if anyone is planning to try it themself too. 6S before corruption, then 4L via bench and tainted fusings for 6L is quite accessible.

So I have actually tried a lot of the things you mentioned minus the enduring cry.

Takes the curse node is alright but you gotta ask yourself if you really want to put that point in mana sustain like that when that shouldnt be your concern mid-late game.

Either one works although 60% increased armor for a witch is harsh to come by. If you are managing not to die with out it then it should be good. Outside of now being affected by more ultimatum modifiers + more eater of worlds modifiers. Shouldnt be that bad.

Ah I miss culling strike. I always put it on my shield charge though.

I cant do withering step with automation. It soaks it up when I need it. To either run through a pack of mobs or when I need my flame dash to blink out of a slowing field.

I would not do 4-->6 with fusing's I always do 5-6 with fusing's because I'm unlucky :/ but still you nailed it!

Sorry that you had that experience. You can harvest spam. Or you can craft using just normal means like alt --> regals if you have the currency for it that is.

Id recommend getting some decent ES gear pieces before conversion for CI. Which you shouldnt need to lose anything before that. Like tree nodes etc, When you are ready to swap in your next aura like malevolence you'll need an mana reservation jewel. Which will take some points.

I should have enough ES for the switch with the gear rn. Still wanted to farm/craft atleast one big cluster for more survivability.

Curse Despair on hit ring is next + hopefully lucky with Essence Spam on the Iolite Ring


Little update: did the switch yesterday. Only had money & skillpoints left for a medium cluster jewel, the huge one will follow when I saved up for a divine again.
Had to take Glancing Blows to get max block tho, sitting at 6.8k ES and feeling MUCH tankier than before, damage also went up quite some bit.
Have yet to find a Haste Merc.

Have a suggestion on where I should go towards next?
