Bloom in Path of Exile

The game looks perfectly fine with less particles and bloom off. PoE is the about the only game I've seen lately whose Dev Team is willing to throw away all the advantages of low-graphics settings because of some utopic artistic vision.

It's a cavalier disregard for standard industry practices, player feedback, player customization, and even the game's looks.
Ok bloomer
https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.
You, GGG, remind me of those who just care about the bling bling. All the glitter, all the shine, all the ostentation.
You think it will improve your game.

YOU. ARE. WRONG.

Make the game bland looking to your eyes, it will look better than what you think at ours. Put your bling bling on the MTX.
The only reason you won't let us turn the shit off is because it'll make all the mtx look worse then they already do, you all claimed to care about the game. and that you'd never do this or that, you're literally doing the things you all said you'd never do. this league was a gigantic mistake on your behalf, bloom makes the game unplayable. the game itself isn't that enjoyable anymore do to all the bullshit lag, people with thousand(s) of dollars invested into their rigs, lag on poe. bottom line, you care more about money and shit looking good, then it actually running good and being good for the game.

D4 is going to blow poe2 out of the water if you keep this shit up.

GGG should focus on fixing the lag in those high demand situations before worrying about perfect looking art.

They literally say changing away from the old system was partially to improve performance

The performance during Delirium encounters is the worst I've experienced in recent times. This was also just added to the game. I base my graphics settings on the worst lag the game has and Delirium makes me want to set every possible setting to the minimum. So for me performance has got worse, not better.

Getting the lag fixed in this situation will let me go back to max settings and the game will look a lot better. A little performance change with new bloom does nothing.
Bloomer
It was absolutely fine with those "fake blooms" and no post-processing at all.
In fact, I liked it better than with post-processing.

Well, guess I'll check in a month or two to see if my eyes can handle whatever improvements to post-processing you'd do. Experience with every other game out there tells me that it will still be terrible.
Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way.

you guys are amazing, thanks for the transparancy and keep up the great work!
I mean if people want to play in butt-ugly stick figure mode, let them manually edit the config down to zero and turn off bloom entirely...

I recognise it'll frustrate the artists, but frankly there's always a group of people who absolutely do not care about any visual quality & so the engine might as well let them be happy too.

TBH I'd probably turn off any graphics system if it helped me more clearly see the telegraphed/significant abilities.

I'm not a fan of using darkness & light in an ARPG (or any non-survival horror game). I'd prefer everything was less cluttered/'spectacular' & more clearly visible, and less variance in light/dark helps visibility.
