It quite clearly states that if a player chooses to help Kraityn when you choose to kill him, then you will have to fight that player, and it is your own fault for not reading that and/or preparing for it.

While I agree it is a rather dirty trick, and the mechanic is designed to allow the scum of the game to kill lower level players, it IS clearly stated that it can happen.

In the future, you have several options for the bandit quests:

1. Join a public party and CHOOSE LAST.
2. Solo the bandits.
3. Party with some trusted friends.

Sorry for your loss, OP, but EndofEnds stated it perfectly. This is as it is.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

It really doesn't matter if he avoids it in the future. It isn't specifically about the OP. The current feature is just so easy to exploit that new players will keep being griefed by jerks, no matter how many times you make yourself feel good by saying the text clearly warns you.

They're not going to wait ages to pick last(that isn't possible, someone has to pick before for those people to be last). There is actually no other choice except soloing the bandits or going with trusted friends. It makes partying for the bandits obsolete unless you already know about people griefing which most new players don't.

Some kind of opt out feature, a timer or simply changing it so it doesn't permanently destroy characters would stop these people ruining the game experience of others.

Yes there is, don't party with a player of much higher level. If a player of roughly equal level wants to try this, he'll end up dead himself instead.

Thank god Athena doesn't race, otherwise no one would have a chance in his/her class.

Some kind of opt out feature

Yeah, if only there were some way to opt out of being in a party. Like, a button or something that you could click to opt out of a party. They should totally add that.

Seriously, this is a ridiculous non-issue. If you can a) read and b) think then you will never have a problem with this quest. I read the description the first time I ever reached this question and said "Wow, that's dangerous. I'll have to be careful who I group with." Since then, I only do the bandit quests with trusted friends or players who pose no threat to me.

There are many ways in which this game says "If you don't pay attention, you will die." Most of these come in the form of monster abilities or boss attacks - this one happens to take the form of a quest. What's the difference? Pay attention or die, those are your fucking choices. Now hike up your diaper and get back out there.
