Alt f4 being instant log out

Plastic Cup is entirely correct.
It doesn't matter if your client closes at the speed of light, there will ALWAYS be a delay from your commands leaving your PC and that packet traversing the open internet to the servers you are connecting to. The only way you could get CLOSE to anything being instant is if you are on the same logical segment (or subnet) as the servers themselves (or be within only a few devices down the signal path from your server). All of that being said, if you have a very solid connection with low jitter/ delay/ loss you can flirt with your characters death all you want. The better your connection the more you can flirt. Seeing as I'm utilizing an abortion of an ISP, I'll stick to standard :) |

Chris Wilson himself has confirmed numerous times that Alt F4 is instant.
I've used it tons of times and it always works just fine. I don't know why people argue about this anymore. |

" Because folks enjoy arguing over dumb shit (myself included). Ultimately if it works it works, nuff said. While it may be close to 'instant' for us to perceive, the difference between 70ms and 700ms is substantial digitally. I know for a fact that if I get remotely close to under 10% life if I try to do anything other than heal I might die. The whole Alt-F4 thing for me tactically in the game is irrelevant because I never play hardcore, so my interest is purely technical. Can you show me where he says this? They should put a 10 sec delay on logout to stop that macro crap honestly, people will macro portaling out, but whatever, at least it sound more "right" and would benefit for races and maps and stuff like that. Logging out in descent is just lame for ex, my opinion at least, and not very fair to people not having the top computer with ssd.

There is defiantly a small delay with alt-F4, if you leave it too late it won't save you.
I know a lot of people do it and would like to see it fixed, but for the love of god don't do what D3 does when you quit the game, having 10 or even longer seconds standing and doing nothing if you D/C or crash, I don't care how good your connection is, but eventually, D/C will happen and to get punished by such a god awful system which was why I ended up quitting D3 hardcore, 8/10 HC deaths very well in and all gone due to D/C. I feel like having a logout delay would punish a lot more players then it would prevent with cheap instant log outs, it would be bad for the enjoyment of the game as a whole, of course it would help the economy a lot .. but I don't think it's for the better of HC gaming. Edit: To add on to this, I still D/C at least once a day on PoE, but due to the much more lenient system, I don't lose all my progress to such a stupid thing.
