So... single target skills were viable in D2.

this game def needs some mechanics similar to crushing blow from d2, would make melee and single target skills alot more interesting

probably my favourite item stat in any game ever, sounds fucking badass aswell "crushing blow"

Well, here most of AoE skills are also better single target thanks to the buckshot effect of LMP or GMP

There are some usefull singletarget skils in PoE as well (usefull for clearing bigger groups of mobs, not only against ustra strong rares/bosses) - i currently play a Duelist with a 2-handed sword (mostly building on attack speed) and most of the time i leap into a group and quickly finish them off with Double strike (thanks to quite good attack speed i finish groups of mobs surprisingly fast - at least in the middle of cruel, i'll see how it turns out later, i do have a decent leap slam on that character and i'm leveling cleave as well (just in case) but currently my single target attack is just as fast as those two XD).

An other strong combination can be: Blood rage + Flicker strike; if you can maintain BR (might be easier with a CI build, but there you have other risks...) and if you can get enough damage to 1-shot mobs you can flicker around as much as you want and kill everything on screen ;)
(the damage should be achievable, i'm currently on 1500 single target DPS with my Double strike, which is more than enough to 1-shot white mobs (some weaker enemies die before the second hit of DS), so i guess flicker can also become strong enough...)
