Why is D2 WhirlWind a 16+ yr skill still function better than Cyclone? Even PoEReddit agrees.

hilarious how they nerfed the "first hit" because it was working like an op channeling when spamming our mouse button would make the damage very high.
2 big patch later they create blade flurry, a channeling skill you don t even need to spam the mouse button to deal op damage. Logic Poe Pvp experience

I think the justification was that cyclone was a moving skill so it was not allowed to have extraordinarily strong initial hit damage or sustained damage like BF.
But obviously BF is a tier or two above cyclone at this moment. IGN: Arlianth

EDIT: Didnt read the reddit post, but its exactly the same thing I mention below.
There is only one thing broken about cyclone - but that tiny thing is so rageinducing that it just boggles my mind why GGG refuses to fix it. If your mouse cursor hits a piece of terrain that cant be reached your character just stops spinning and moving in general. In diablo you just spin in place against the terrain "barrier" that hinders you in moving to the cursor. In POE if you are slow to react and it happens in a mob pack you may/will die. Why can you not whirl in place or whirl to approximated to the next reachable terrain spot? BTW. thats the same problem I have with leap slam in the lab. I have died a lot in the traps because my character simply refused to move where I wanted him to because I seem to not have clicked the right terrain spot. So instead of moving as close as possible to it, my character just did nothing and stood in the traps of doom. Reach out and touch hate. Same reason why skills like lightning strike are garbo.
No clue why they fixed stuff like glacial cascade but didn't fix lightning strike and cyclone etc at a similar time. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

as others have mentioned tiny rocks are the only thing that ruins cyclone, its the getting stuck in an area and manically clicking to try and get your tool of a character to realise he can spin in a direction.
Ground effects probably need changing, though i did make a shotgun arctic breath character this league so I got to make use of that one at least i've made several lightning strike characters and that ability feels like getting griefed just to use it >< |

" Most movement skills are suboptimal in this way and have similar performance issues. My least favorite is whirling blades, I usually end up cringing when I realize the reason I am dying is because I cannot whirl away, and the reason I cannot whirl away is that there is some (often invisible) obstacle hidden somewhere between my character and my cursor position. I find Leap Slam works much better than most skills (and certainly better, for me, than WB or SC). Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion
