Wish POE worked with Mac
I am using Julius wine port but it's still too laggy for smooth gameplay. It freezes everytime i go in to the fight the final boss in act 1, it's impossible running around without lagging. I really wish they came out with a mac version of the game.

Since closed beta I simply installed windows xP 32 bit with boot camp so i Can dual boot on the OS I choose.
With my Imac 2011 Intel i3 dual core 3,2 ghz 8 gb ram its really easy to set up and in solo it plays like a charm with high textures and highest resolution(27'')(remember xP only recognize 3 gb ram) Just be sure to install any newer driver than the ones that comes with bootcamp. But when it comes to full groups I have huge lag spikes and get my drops stoled whenever laggy skills are involved when it comes to act3(really feels smoother in acts 1 & 2). Some of the most powerfull and used skills in the game like lightning arrow gives me an hard time. But Im still playing in group runs all the time. Imac 2011 Intel i3 dual core 3,2 ghz 8 gb ram The wine alternative really doesnt looks viable for a machine as weak as mine and anyway anything I tried in parralel/wine/play on mac/other emulating devices was laggy or too hard to set up. " At least for me newer AMD Catalyst drivers ruined performance in Win 7. So I went back to Apple's drivers and have no problems anymore. Your Mac has ATI gpu too, right? If so, how are you coping with it and PoE under Windows? EDIT Ah it seems you have posted before to a thread concerning AMD/ATI issues. If you have issues, you might want to test Bootcamp drivers too, just in case they work better for PoE. Dernière édition par krifFinn#4964, le 18 févr. 2013 à 13:46:31

" I was actually on bootcamp's driver for my ATI gpu but since I updated it like 2 weeks ago im having better stability(the only one I needed to update). But what you are saying about win 7 might be perfectly true as for drivers you can have problems with the most up to date one. I am not sure at all if my ATI would be the source of my lags when theres is an infinite number of particles on the screen or if its just the entire hardware of my mac that might be clearly outdated. |

Instead of Wine, why not run it in a virtual machine? I imagine it will be less shitty than trying to run it behind an incomplete abstraction layer.
EDIT: As a sidenote, ATI cards/drivers have a bad history of having issues with recent games ( read: hellacious frame skipping ). A lot of big games ( GW2 being one of them ) worked directly with ATI to improve performance and try to reduce crashes which ended in a slightly better driver release. Maybe quite trying to be a hipster and use a real OS like Linux.

" Mac is BSD-based now. It's actually not that bad, it's just all the extra over-priced pretties and restrictions they tack on to it. It was complete and utter garbage before it was Unix based, and ran on Motorola CPUs. LOL, Motorola. Early PowerPC stuff was junk too, but it got better towards the end. I don't see the point in paying extra $$ to have an apple logo on something when it just boils down to a prettified BSD that finally runs on an Intel architecture with stupid shit tacked on. Pro-tip: BSD is FREE. I guess there's also their Mach Microkernel, but who the fuck even knows what that does. Dernière édition par andybmcc#3970, le 18 févr. 2013 à 14:27:42

" Well, running anything from virtual machines isnt the worst thing possible when it comes to performances? You need something like 10 times the actual system requirements to run a game trought virtualization. |

" I built my comp from the ground up, got Linux and Google Chrome, and went online and compared it to a top end $900 Alien Ware/$750 Valkyrie(yes valkyrie is cheaper, get over it AlienWare) and it had nearly exact specs. Mine cost me $387.92 buying everything from Tiger Direct and assembling it myself. I hate you Mac/Microsoft.
