If it is a sad truth that GGG made a weapon that does not work as well as it seems, it is better to acknowledge it than trying to build romantic ideas around making it work. The reason I linked my mace is not to show off, but to show that my mace is CRAP, and even that crap mace can perform much better than this unique. While I agree that uniques are meant for players who cant find expensive weapons, but 20 chaos for a weapon that can achieve so much more damage than that unique is expensive? Even a critical strike dagger is not much more expensive. If you guys really care about OP, you should be brutally honest in pointing out that it is much better to just use another inexpensive weapon rather than telling him nice stuff like 'Hey, that weapon can still work' Now he is even starting to believe that he can make a good build from that weapon judging from the posts above. Continue bashing me for being 'unkind' and continue feeding him ideas and let him make one whole build out of it only to learn the hard way. Then we shall see who is the real nice guy here. |

The problem is the direct competition with doryani's catalyst, this is why maces and scepter have very low value. Dory is too good and too cheap. secondly, varunastra is not a crap unique, it has potentials for "specials builds" or to replace a low tier weapon. Thirdly there is no third. I've been playing with this sword in PHC almost since the start and I'm loving it (the freedom it allows). At the start of the league it was very cheap, a few chaos, so I bought a few and ripped one to test in Std too. Both builds aim to be more defensive than offensive.
PHC Gladiator, non-crit, frenzy charges, using frost blades / frenzy for singletarget & getting up charges on bosses. Most of the gear is self-found / self-crafted, the rest are budget uniques (except the sword which it seems got up in price quite a lot)

Ended up using this sword on my gladiator aegis build. For what it is, on a build that can't afford to go for that many offensive nodes, this weapon turned out to be very good.

So I usually don't post anything ever and I am currently on my tablet so forgive any autocorrect but I threw together a build this morning based off 1 varunastra for cyclone. Using evasion and energy shield for defenses getting chaos inoculated and rolling a trickster for the movement passive plus the extra evasion and Es I don't have a need for health and mana pots and I don't have to roll bonus health or mana regeneration just a bit of life leech and ghost reaver next to CI. Cyclone has no cost since its a movement skill and you have the tricksters passive so you can stack as many auras as you can. just focus on damage nodes Eva rating and ES nodes plus resistances and you can use whatever pots you want. Towards the top of the tree there is a physical damage passive that gives you 5% of your physical damage as bonus chaos damage and a poison on critical passive for daggers in the big dagger circle to the right of that. Now I am by no means an expert at theory crafting but I have a ton of fun doing it and this one has me more excited than anything else I've done so far.
