How to best use varunastra?

123% life without other layers of defense is a crazy freakin suicide. Do not.

150% is the minimum to not get oneshoted by a critical done by a big skeleton with a physical totem aura + a rare monster aura. They deal up to 3/4K damage !

BTW i'm VERY sorry, i have done a mistake, the class needed for my build is GLADIATOR, not champion. It needs the block spell node ^^ i change it .

Well, I downloaded poemate which lets me copy a url for the tree which I've posted here. It doesn't let me see trees copied from elsewhere, though :/

So, here you go:

Basic stats:
-190% life
-555% crit
-388% phys dmg
-87% aps
-295% crit multi

That being said, this is a pretty basic tree, and not one I would prefer. My version is simply removing all the marauder nodes and getting jewel sockets and frenzy charges for a huge increase in dps.

I made something funny based on avatar of fire with wild strike linked to:
elemental focus + weapon ele damage + fire penetration + multi strike + added fire damage.

No melee physical damage gem, the secondary effects arent boosted by this gem.

call of the brotherhood ring + pyre ring + avatar of fire =

50 % to lightning converted to cold, 50% lightning converted to fire, 100% cold to fire.

Wild strike will always be fire damage.

Now we add Hatred & herald of ash :)

Berserker ascendancy class with aspect of carnage for the 40% more.

multipliers
1.39 * 1.59 * 1.4 BSK * 1.4 Ele overload

extra damage
36 + 15 + 44 = 95% extra.


Multi strike & fire pene of course

wild strike deals 146.6%


92% as
214% accuracy (LOL!! but needed )
508% increased
172% crit chance only to trigger ele overload.
169% life.

dps will be over 50K, more than 100K if we count the fire pene plus potential curse

Not insane but fun.

I started building around that. Planning to reach 800 dexterity. Thats 5 ballistas, without ancestral bond! I have high hopes. Should wreck bosses easily, although clearing is gonna be a bit clunky since it takes time to summon all those ballistas.


Sunblast + 2 cheap constructions, Trap + Siege ballista + multiple traps + cluster traps = 6 instant siege ballistas.

Probably better to just use cluster traps and get 4 ballistas, that way you get an extra support slot for something else. (Or Multiple traps and cast it twice.)

I see three uses for Varunastra:

1) Use Claw nodes to get lots of free leech. This tree is a bad example of a claw/block build that I threw together in 2min. Vaal Pact, block, hybrid weapon nodes.

2) Use Varunastra as... a crit sword! Shocking. Use new Crit Strikes gem, hybrid crit nodes, dagger nodes etc. Crit swords usually don't get maxed crit values anyway, but the new Inc Crit Strikes gem is really good! Probably Dual Wield for access to Twin Terrors dw crit nodes. Here's another garbo tree that gets about 60% crit with 4 PC's.

3) Use Varunastra as a duelist or marauder just as an easy weapon to get damage for on the tree, to prop up whatever else your build is up to. No tree for this one since it depends what subclass you want, where you want to go with it, etc.

Using rings we can go Elementalist Static strike/Lightning Strike/Wild Strike + Avatar of Fire + Elemental Overload + CI. 20% fire penetration, +80% dmg from golem and +100% for 4 sec each 10 sec (+40% dmg average)

No need invest into crit chance since Elemental overload easy to trigger with ice spear + crit chance support.
Wow, if you use ice spear you will lose a lot of time :c, it's a slow spell, you do not have cast speed, to use it each 8 seconds will be a pain in the ass, especially that you do not have spell crit so it will reach 50% crit max, therefore you will need to cast it often and pray to be lucky.


Seems very problematic. In my crit chance, it's only some nodes that give this steady result, allowing almost constant overload without problems.



20% fire pene is not better than 40% More damage if you already have pene somewhere else ( fire pene gem, curse, already 70+% ! , a second curse? 80+!) It's even badder. Yup.
Also berserker gives life and mana leech, it's very usefull because we do not have the duelist leech nodes and no life leech gem in the links, and doyrani's belt is bad for it's leech alone.
ok the golem will be fun

With the witch start it will be difficult to get the maraudeur and ranger/duel nodes.

You will have access to shadow crit nodes easily but in this case, is it a good idea to use elemental overload? If you dont you will fall to maraudeur area but it needs a lot of nodes and there is not a lot of es around this area, i'mma try to do it.

primarly i had a thought about it but clearly Elementalist is DIFFICULT to use.

Right now i havent found a good way to make it work efficiently.

Ranger deadeye, Ricochet Far shot projectile.

Played with lightning strike without Q20 to not pierce, plus physical to lightning and lightning pene gems.

The main idea is to use ricochet to clean packs at an insane speed from far away, while far shot will destroy bosses easily.


There is a big advantage to go ele convertion + projectile, we can pick everything on the path to Energy shield nodes. Really everything, it transforms varu in a All in one weapon.

135% es (low :/)
210% shield es so 345 with the es nodes, a good es shield is needed (400+)
a bit of block

It's 6000 es with decent gear. (303 discipline, 200 gloves, 200 boots, 400 helm, 700 armor, 400 shield) It can reach higher numbers with ES rings and amulet.

4 jewels socket!
670% increased for the projectile part
101% attack speed
76% accuracy

405% crit chance
69% crit mult
Not a lot but the point is to shock big bosses.

+ 1skill chain
+ far shot up to 30% More damage at max distance


lightning strike
physical to lightning
lightning penetration
Physical projectile attack damage
weapon elemental damage
multistrike

47% penetration without curse

need doryani's lightning belt! or life leech gem instead of lightning pene but meh.

In fact it's far better, more increased energy shield but we lose a jewel socket and spell block. Thoo yeah this version is great.

Tried making a few elemental builds, but nothing really looked good, that lightning strike one looks reasonable though, Geisalt.

Also, I was looking at weapons to keep in the offhand, for certain skills (mostly ice crash, because of the easy 100% ele conversion), and this seems very strong for that; extra dmg, hits cant be evaded, a shame the penetration is local though.

If it works anything like the Vagan mod then the Hits Can't Be Evaded would also be local.
