watching Streamers do the Hardcore one-month, made me realize something

In this thread:

Sc players: Hc PLAYERS Y U NO DIE

Hc players: We no fool yo!

Also we play however the fuck we want.

I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.
I play with altf4 in mind, which means I play more risky which equals more fun to me. I'd play differently if I knew I couldn't instalog (see the cutthroat races where this wasn't possible). Now why should I play as if altf4 doesn't exist? To prove something to some internet strangers? :)
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

First of all, it's not a 'tactic', but a 'panic button'.

Tactic - An action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end.

"
But in PoE you can never be prepared 100%.

That is one of the consequences of playing hardcore in any game

"
Open a strongbox in a tight space and many things can go wrong: loading lag, FPS drops, desync, impossible to exectue your escape plan.. whatever.

You know the potentially consequences of performing that action. You actually just listed a lot of potential outcomes. The proper hardcore response to that particular strong box is you don't open it. You eliminate any of those potential problems and make the correct tactical decision to stay alive.

"
The fights in this game are short and deadly. I'd prefer a more attrition-based, longer fighting, but it is what it is. GGG specifically said that fighting is balanced around escape options.

And since you can die so fast, the game still offers an adrenaline experience, even if you could escape at any moment.

I agree that is their game design.

How successful would you saying closing the application is in preventing death?

Please, show me a link with an official statement from a dev, supporting your statement. Not a "alt-f4 is OK". Not a "alt-f4 is allowed". Show me a statement where they say that the hard core mode is DESIGNED AROUND the ability to alt-f4.
.

If I show a such statement, what will you pay me? (Haven't read full thread, so don't know if anyone else provided :))

Payment is relevant because I don't tag posts just in case someone may want to know where it was said in the future lol XD, so it would take some time to find it.

Edit: seems like someone already provided a good link ^^.

Isn't it at least somewhat exciting to you to know that you didn't die because you played the game right?
Sure. I'm assuming you're talking about handling a difficult situation and succeeding. I don't find dying because of poor game design to be exciting though. And since I don't like the method I mentioned as a way of circumventing those issues, I just don't play it. That's on me though.

I guess this is where we feel different.

I haven't died in a long time but it does happen that sometimes its a DC/shitty laptop lag etc (i've lost at least 2-3 90's that way).

I choose to deal with issues like that, that seldom ruin my fun because it's vastly more enjoyable getting to the point where I died than playing on a league that doesn't feel so fun.

I'd say it is mostly successful. It sometimes fails when the damage input is too large or you are taking some sort of DoT damage - chaos degen/viper strikes/ignite or simply being surrounded by a lot of mobs for one reason or another and taking a lot of damage. Playing with higher ping or on the US realm (if you are from eu) can make it worse too because it takes longer for the server to get the message that you logged.

Lets say im doing atziri on HC. I'm in one of the boss fights and I've ran out of pots and I'm about to take some most likely lethal damage. I can try and ofted do run around hoping for some adds to refill part of my pots but if I have taken some significan't damage Ill just log and be back in the fight in 30 sec ready to pick off where i left it.

first and foremost, it made me respect ZiggyD.
the guy died in the first day. twice. but he died actually fighting stuff.
his entire rip-log video is full of "I should have logged out", so let me be the first to say - no, Ziggy, you shouldn't.
and yes, you sure as fuck did the right thing to come back from the portal and try to kill the thing.

let this be an example to all you PoE players out there, streaming or not: when you log-out at the slightest sign of danger. when you abuse portal/area grace periods and TP out after taking one hit for less than 50% of your health. when you are skipping bosses.... you aren't playing the game. you maybe are "competing" and whatnot, but you aren't playing.

I'll get a lot of flame for this, so bring it on. I can take it.
ask yourselves, are you ready to play Path Of Exile? yes, you may RIP in HC. yes, you may lose some EXP in SC and maybe a position on the ladder because the guy below you didn't have the fucking balls to take on this boss - but whoever dubbed "not logging out" a "mistake", whoever says "skip this", whoever abuses and exploits the fuck out of the game just to stay alive - is a bloody idiot. even if his cowardly tactics and a bunch of good friends willing to die for the cause, get him top of the ladder - he'd still be an idiot.

I could sign that a thousand times and still not get tired of it. Starting right now:

YES!

Kind regards, Jojas

I just died at lvl 50 with my first HC character (outside of short races), and I feel this. I could have logged out, but I went down fighting, trapped in a corner with leaping maws, Bond of Chaos crustaceans, and desync.

I don't plan to touch HC ever again; it's just not for me. But to hardcore-only masochists, especially those who don't log out in the face of non-desync-related danger, I salute you.

I don't have to prove to myself shit. I log on occasion and don't regret it. It's a part of the game an I don't see why people on the internet feel the need to dictate how I play. I used to play softcore and once I finally got up the nerve to play HC, I never looked back. It's much more fun imo, but if you want to play softcore that's your choice, just like it is my choice to log out if I panic. It's part of the game. If you don't like it then don't use it.

Also people like talking about dying because of bad game design. I have only had one death where I felt that it was due to something out of my control (aka bullshit) and that was when my computer decided to minimize my game for no reason. I have never felt that I died because of bad game design. When you realize you made a mistake and react fast enough to log out before you die, then you deserve to live. It's part of the game, get over it. I can tell that a lot of the people bitching about it have either never played hardcore or not gotten far enough to know what they are talking about.
