does GGG even ban RMTers
I will never RMT but my ultimate goal is to find or craft an item which is so good that everyone will accuse me of RMT!

RMT will exist regardless of game design (not entirely true, but for most online games this is the case), but you can make it matter be more or less intrusive depending on that design.
Unfortunately RMT in PoE is VERY intrusive and affects legit players much, and it does because how the game is designed. You call that a positive feedback loop, something that you would want to avoid in this sort of game. |

GGG simply does not have the resources to launch a full scale rmt hunt. their efforts are focused on chinese bot farms and not so much buyers.
there are threads where rmters just line up around the block to get mirrored weapons with low level chars and non existent trade history. probable cause is not enough proof to warrant a ban and GGG will not devote the time to check every single one of these suspicious cases. The end result is pretty much any random player with a credit card will be able to obtain bis gear in a matter of weeks or months of play. IGN: Arlianth

Is is impossible to know if someone is real money trading when they are using other means of communication outside of the game itself and therefore, it cannot be stopped. Players have vent, mumble telephones, emails, and many other means of discussing payments that would in no way be accessible by GGG investigators. As long as there is trading and as long as you can hand an item to another player in game, you can pay for it with real life currency and there is absolutely no way to stop it uness the culprit is irresponsible or stupid enough to mention it while in game or on a stream or chat channel.

If trading becomes a really negative game experience and the RMT board got several 100k+ fools gold users RMT is out of control.

" It is very possible, because items can only be traded inside the game, so there are patterns that can be spotted and followed up on. It's not rocket science, but it does require effort and there is the risk of false positives. A few key points: - It is mostly quantities of higher end orbs that are sold, and more expensive uniques and rares. - These are not traded for anything of comparable value (or for anything at all). - The receiver of the item(s) did not know the seller's character/account before (not played together, no previous trades, not been on each other's friends list). - The RMT seller is likely to use a throw away character. - The account itself is probably used for multiple transactions (due to the level requirement), all or several of which met the above criteria. This is quite a bit of data for a script or program to work with and draw conclusions from, and alert a human of suspicious accounts/characters for further investigation. It can also log names of accounts or characters that repeatedly trigger flags. Not trivial, but far from impossible. | |
[Removed by Support] simply put IMO putting GGG currency into fg... and straight back into ggg currency... at more or less the same trade rate/value as in game... should not be bannable, but alas, that requires too much effort on the part of GGG so they have to give a blanket ban...
And even if they did go through all the effort, all the 12 year olds who haven't quite figured out that FG isn't the devil will then bash GGG for what they believe is a lack of action when in reality GGG went above and beyond what they would normally have to do... I generaly dont trade except in extreme situations, i never check any ladders or compare myself to other players (since ppl obviously have more time and devotion than me) and i dont feel any effects of RMT whatsoever.
I also regularly lend a 6L shavs to a friend via trade (for free of course), now after reading this thread i feel nervous doing it. |
