Least gear dependant build?

Thinking about what I'm gonna go with for open beta. Which builds are the most effective with the least amount of gear?

I was thinking between these 2:

1# Ground slamming marauder.

2# Summoner Witch.

3# Or you recommend one.

Haven't tried a summoner, but I know marauder starts off decent, but hits a really rocky road in merciless unless they got solid gear, just due to enemy damage scaling way up. I don't like having to kite mobs with a melee. But to be fair I had a Voll's Baptism on my mara since normal, which made me hit like a truck all the way up to merciless. I can't count on acquiring a weapon that good come open beta.

Basically which one is more effective in merciless with sub-par gear?

I need to be able to gradually progress for at least the 1st week only using what I pick up on the ground. I need a build that can get me desirable results. I want to make it to merciless in about 30 hours tops finding gear I pick up off the ground, no trading.

PoE isn't going anywhere. I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to discover what works best on your own :) Besides builds deemed successful in the Open beta are very likely to be invalidated or require reworking based on what we've seen of Alpha content.

I personally will be rolling a Summoner Witch while stacking quantity/rarity and stashing whatever. I don't intend it to be my main but decent enough to farm up gear for the handful of other specs I've got planned.

That is basically what I'm looking to do, start off with something only because its effective. I don't personally care if I think its the most fun build to play or not, I just want to get ahead with something, so I'm in a better position to acquire gear for builds I enjoy playing more. This is why I'm asking some people who know more than me what are some tested/proven builds that are capable of giving me my desired results.

When does summoner witch get good? Like when do I make the transition from using stuff I'm not going to be using later, and start relying on pets to start smashing faces instead of using spells to do damage that I'm not optimized for?

Even for a summoner build, you more or less need a helmat with +1 minion levels.
The least gear dependant is probably a life tank, take and respec out of RT and/or cast speed to vary your offense, grab Zombies with minion life gem to get additional targets.
Also, EA/PA/Viper will allow you offense without gear.

Isn't a "no" better than an ignore?
This is a pretty basic outline of the summoner build.

In my experience leveling this character you won't want to use minions until late twenties. You can try but it's much more frustrating limiting than just simply clearing stuff with freezing pulse. I used to race a bunch as a FP witch for my demigods so the mechanical memory of the skill is pretty well developed. It'll also be important on launch to obtain the googledoc with the skill gem quest rewards so you can have everything you need in advance.

EA/PA/Viper? The later is viper strike? What about the others?

I take it some of the better skill gems are going to be worth a LOT in early open beta. So previous prices are probably out the window. Something like a lesser projectiles will probably be worth a GCP or more at launch? And some of the low level twink uniques like maligaro's or carnage heart will be priceless.

And this is why people should stop being lazy and just type out the name of the gems.

I think PA is poison arrow and EA is explosive arrow.

Still seriously, to anyone reading this, please stop with the stupid abbreviations. If you want to shorten the name of something, mention it in full first before jumping straight to abbreviations.

Although I think you may be right about people overvaluing low level uniques, the reality is that they really aren't of much use. 90% of leveling racers don't even wear chest armor until The Cove/Merival's Cavern because of the character speed reduction and the fact you really don't need gear. Uniques that will actually be priceless are Fairgrave's, Dreamfragments, Marohi Erqi etc. Personally I enjoy using 'found' gear on alts rather than twinking them out at low levels, but that's just me.

I'm not going to bother trying to trade for the support gems. I'll just be leveling up a couple characters at the start to stash gems/currency for the two main builds I'd like to use. And since they're just mules I won't be trying to optimize hardcore so I'll just get to experiment and mess around.
The least gear dependant builds are those with fixed damage.

So summoner, spellcasters, elemental hit and explosive arrow.

Playability is another question.
