Aggro range is way too high
My issues come from:
1) Summons. Skeletons are the biggest offender since they'll wander wherever they want and slowly pull a lot of stuff towards me. I shouldn't have to recast my skeletons to avoid aggroing more stuff I don't want to deal with when I'm just trying to finish a zone. In the same vein I shouldn't be able to pull mobs by throwing skeletons at the edge of the screen. It's also annoying when you're just trying to run through an area, but you have to stop because the zombies found something to nibble on so you have to follow. This starts a chain reaction of pulls. Hopefully the minion update will address this somewhat. 2) Necromancers. I don't mind them, I like the added challenge they give, but running through a room that was previous cleared because the Necromancer down the path I didn't take decided to raise everything I just killed while I went along my way is annoying. It shouldn't be mandatory to blow up every undead corpse in every room after the fight is done. That's tedious. Otherwise, it's more annoying than anything. I don't feel it's adding more challenge, which is all my two issues address as well. Personally there is additional frustration as I am occasionally limited to a monitor that cannot display very much. IGN: Alfrost, Racthoh, The_Crimson

Hard and annoying aren't really the same thing. This game is pretty easy, honestly. It's also really annoying sometimes. I wonder sometimes if these mobs are designed to be more realistic than fun to fight. Necros coming in packs of 3s, running to ress mobs they can't see, constructs shooting off screen, having a high movespeed and also coming in packs, most of the monster affixes in the game being more geared towards either damage (fine) or making the boss take longer (stupid), etc.
It's all minor stuff, really, stuff I'll forgive for a beta, but it feels more like they're throwing annoying stuff at me to solve with skills rather than running into fun situations to use my skills in. " How does it make sense for enemies to detect you further away than you can detect them? I could see maybe with bosses or special enemies but not every single mob. The game moves fast regardless and no one takes an hour to kill a group of enemies and pick up loot and move on. Every enemy is already aware of you coming towards them well before you see them so how is ambushing them often even a problem? I have no problem with the difficulty with the game, I have 2 60+ and 1 40+ characters and I've died less than 15 times. This has nothing to do with me having a hard time with this stupid mechanic. I just think the aggro range is broken and should be fixed. |

I think there is no reason for mobs to not detect you from further distance than you can see them other than gameplay. I can't tell if it is bad that they can detect us at this moment. It seems like some mobs should do that and some could just wander around until you attack them. You know, for more variety.
Sometimes you would get sniped and have to run away, sometimes you could back off and keep picking them one by one. It doesn't seem broken to me, I think the 'oh fuck' situations are part of the experience... ✠ ✠

"That's not true unless you're playing on an extremely low resolution. There are plenty of enemies that don't react until you get them well within your view distance. Of course, there are others that react from much further, but the majority of enemies seem to react at about a screen't distance (assuming that's around 1920x1080... I highly doubt it would be simple to tie aggro to actual resolution-based view distance, and that would be very broken for those who play at higher resolutions). It's good because it adds variety. It creates situations where the player is surprised and must take an alternate strategy other than charging head-on into the next room. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus. Well some mobs are problematic on Widescreen. Most Laptops only have a Height of 768, which is rather limited and often not enough to view some of the aggroed mobs. Happens quite often to Skeleton-Archers.

I had a situation yesterday evening where I was being hit by lightning arrows by an off-screen skeleton. Lightning arrow doesn't always have direction cues so it was pretty irritating.

" Come on, this never happens. I don't think I've ever had more than 3 monsters come at me at once from outside the screen. Plus almost all monsters in this game move so slow... Same strategy as always. Stand in 1 spot and spam main attack. Monsters from outside your screen run into your attacks and die anyway. |
