The Holy Trinity of ARPGs (Torchlight, Diablo, and Path of Exile)
definitely the best, least biased, most informative compare/contrast ive read of the 3.

Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 largely are catering to returning fanbases while trying to hook a new audience by dumbing things down, but Path of Exile's niche is that it tries to be more hardcore in terms of difficulty, customization, and dark vibe. It doesn't have the budget to compete with these two veritable giants and between the three it'll have fewer players by the millions when all is said and done, but that doesn't mean Path of Exile can't be a success if GGG nurtures its relationship with its fanbase and gives us exactly what we need to stay.

" They've got a long way to go to make it difficult. Especially difficult without being cheesy - many of the things that are "difficult" currently are difficult for silly reasons, for example packs of flicker-striking mobs, or early bosses taking advantage of lack of resistances (Chatters/Hailrake) or build options (Fetid Pools) being available yet, stuff like that. |

As of tonight, I have also played all three of these games, got my T2 key on Sunday.
I have to admit before I played any of them, I expected D3 to be the only game to be worth playing, with T2 being a game that "plays safe" not daring to try anything new and Path of Exile a F2P super generic stiff clickfest. Now that I've played all of them, Torchlight 2 is exactly what I thought it would be, boring, slow, way too easy and simply uninteresting in enemy design, skill choiche and most important of all, loot variation. I played for 2 hours on Veteran without every dying, watching Buffy on a second screen. I played Diablo III and got a shock when I found out you couldn't choose any skills yourself. Then the first skills did unlock and I wondered what was going on, because those skills seemed like stuff you usually see 10-20 hours in a game. I felt like being strapped down on a sofa and spoonfed caviar by beautiful women without ever having to actually do anything than watching my character dance around on screen. What does it matter who's sitting in fron of the pc. A bit confused I was grasping to play just about anything in the genre and then saw that by now you can get into the closed beta for 10$, so I thought "whatever" and got a key, which was right before the 0.9.9 update. I started playing and was amazed by every single aspect of the game. The graphic style, the animations, the incredible sound design, the enemy behavior, the skill system, the potions, the player interaction, and most important the loot. I played for a week straight, before I decided to stop until the open beta, so I can play act III with every character extensively. I actually tried to like D3 and T2, and even tried NOT to like PoE, but while D3 and T2 on their own are already not really worth playing for me, seeing them in comparison to PoE makes the completely irrelevant. I'm not a fanboy by a long shot, and I only have a medium amount of experience with the gerne, but I have to say, that this is the best ARPG I have ever played. |

I pick Path of Exile although I prefer having personalized loot drops not free for all and different armor designs, its still a great game. :D

" From someone who bought D2 when it launched I now have beaten D3 on normal and have 2 other toons halfway through doing the same. I can assure you it isn't dumbed down, this is silly nonsense that people assumed from playing the beta, but the full game is quite different. In 30 levels my barbarians has experimented with, used and tossed away more builds, ideas, skills and tactics than I used in my whole time playing a barb on D2. Its a very different experience to D2 for sure, but its actually quite alot more complex if you bother to dig deeper than the surface, also funny how people are complaining that Hell and Inferno are to hard yet other people who dont play say its some sort of easy mode for kids... it really isn't " Clearly you never played long enough to reach anything remotely challenging. Also what on earth do you mean you dont choose skills?? I could have sworn ive selected skills to use every level now and have had to choose which ones to make a build round. And if you bothered to look there is a little option in the game menu that allows you to custom choose your skill slots and opens up way more choice than D2 ever had. Of course if you rely on beta experiences or bad reviews you wouldn't know any of this this... Dernière édition par RodHull#2035, le 21 mai 2012 à 17:50:06

" It's not about the game being challenging or not, it's how the game is played in general that I don't like. As I said, I expected to like it, and tried to like it. This is just my opinion, I am aware that many people love that game, a lot of my friends do, but it's just not for me. " I mean that skills unlock in a set pattern and not by choice. And that by that you inevitably get ALL skills with EVERY character. Dernière édition par golem09#3277, le 21 mai 2012 à 18:40:42
