The Holy Trinity of ARPGs (Torchlight, Diablo, and Path of Exile)
D3:
the fact that D3 has single player and is made to play with your friends but FORCES an ISP connection just drops my D3 rating form what ever it would have been to a big ZERO. the only way im getting D3 is a hacked copy with a sandbox server so i can LAN party with friends with out the worry of an ISP connection. PoE: i have only been able to play PoE in this last stress test... but i have very high hopes. i love the mertira like system and really wish SE/SS would make a FF7 online.(F2P but not P2W) there are some small balance issues and bugs but it is in CBT... the only real problem i had was in dark maps i could only see what was right next to me so was casting blindly in to the darkness. i know nothing of TL2... lol wish the old D1 teams MMO didn't fail... it would have been a good game to add to this list... but every one keep bashing on it for being a diablo clone with out realizing that it was the creates of D1 that made it. >.> Edit: "They" to "The"* We can't solve problems we can't talk about... Although your post seems to be far less biased than that of the other guy who did a comparison yesterday or so, I still wonder why you would ever do this so close before Diablo 3's release.

" First, excellent post. Hits on everything fairly and pretty accurately. I would say that you may have missed pointing out the customization offered by Blizzard's skill system. I really think it's under-rated and once people sink their teeth into it they'll realize that rather than one of the games weaknesses, the skill system and customization offered by stats/affixes on gear offers unparalleled customization. That said, I love TL2 and PoE just as much as I love D3. I wanted to quote the above cons of PoE for emphasis: these things really hurt the longevity of the game for me. I can only take so much gray before I start getting sad. I'm the kind of person that needs sunlight to stay happy. I get chronically depressed during the winter months here in Chicago. I've said this elsewhere and I'll say it here: the environments of PoE is like the developers looked at Desolace from Vanilla WoW and extrapolated the palette across an entire game world. Eugh. Also, the fact that your character just doesn't look any different at level 60 with the best gear than at level 10 is a huge turn-off. Say what you want about the art-style of D3, but the concept of strong silhouettes is lost on PoE. Here's to enjoying all three! :D Playing both PoE AND D3 (and Grim Dawn when it's released).
Deal with it. |

Funny you should say that, because I absolutely LOVED Desolace above any other zone in WoW and was especially sad to see it remade in Cataclysm. I still have a screenshot of the troll village for a wallpaper....ahh, good times!

" I appreciate the feedback - however, just so we're clear, you quoted a segment from the cons I listed about PoE when referencing why I didn't give D3 more credit for its own character diversity. Re-read the D3 section, as I did defend it's character diversity builds pretty thoroughly. :) Brixtan [Default League] ------------- Arda_EAC: LV 67 Summoner Brixtan: LV 27 Templar Dernière édition par Brixtan#7264, le 14 mai 2012 à 11:44:35

" The reason for this seems apparent to me. They will selling customizations in the cash shop to make your particular character unique. CharanJaydemyr spoke about his view of this in one of his threads. I completely agree, they have made the weapon/armor models and characters bland so you feel the need to customize your character through the cash shop. GGG needs to make money somehow. Refreshing review. Thanks for that!

" They HAVE upgraded and added a lot of new weapons and armor models/skins, and I believe they will continue to do so. But like you said, they will indeed keep some things bland for cash shop purposes. Sweeping Maid

" That does sounds reasonable but still a cons especially for new comers. |

I'll go read the rest of the thread later, but I just want to comment the title of the thread a bit. "The Holy Trinity of ARPGs (Torchlight 2, Diablo 3 and Path of Exile"? What about Grim Dawn? Yes, it's being made by only two regular people, though they have several people helping out when they can, and yes, it's not out until next year. Still, it should be enough to say it's the spiritual successsor to Titan Quest. So why not add Grim Dawn to the Holy Trinity?
