Multistrike
I hate multistrike like really but sadly its mandatory for every melee build that needs autotargeting and that are most melee buils so I have no choice but using it.
I personally think that the current multistrike is a BIG reason why melee is in such a bad shape right now. This gem has like just a history of nerfs (with one minor exception) since it came out and could really use some buff now. It all starts with the horrible damage bonus that Multistrike gives. 1.94*07 ~ 36% more damage on gem level 20. So a lot of melee builds are forced to use this 36% subpar more DPS gem when they could have 40-50%+ more DPS gems instad. The next thing is the quality bonus. "increased melee physical damage". Why physical damage? Does Spell Echo give "increased physical/elemental/chaos spell damage"? No it gives increased SPELL DAMAGE. So why on earth would this NOT BE JUST MELEE DAMAGE? And the last and worst thing is how multistrike corrupts skillgem, crit and hit mechanics with its stupid style of packing all melee hits into groups of 3. Want to play Elemental Overload as melee with Multistrike? Better get a 3 times higher crit chance to just have the elemental overload effect on as a normal build would. At this point you could got crit already anyway. Most build with 85+% hitchance would like never miss 3 hits a row. With Multistrike it becomes an everyday business for every melee player. And god how it interacts with the Ruthless support gem ... I see it now again with my Smite char, since I use Multistrike Elemental Overload triggers like never, before multistrike it was LITERALLY always on. Just reskilled to Resolute Techniques now because I am sick of this inconsistent shit. Thats exactly what the "3 hits packed together" mechanic of multistrike does: Making consistent builds inconsistent. tl;dr: So yea GGG if you want to improve the life of melee players without fiddling around with numbers too much, my suggestion would be: Make every hit of multistrike having his own chance to hit, crit and Ruthless Blow counter and Quality bonus should be "increased melee damage". Multistrike is mandatory for so many builds if it has such weakening mechanics it really drags the whole melee scene down with it. To trigger elemental overload, your multistrike supported melee gem does not need to crit. Just any random hit your caracter does triggers it.
Just do a CWDT(lvl 1) + Orb of Storms(lvl 9) + inc crit gem(lvl 20) and you are done. If the monsters do not deal enougth damage to trigger an lvl 1 CWDT they are no danger anyway, so you dont need to trigger it. And if they are able to trigger it, you have an 95% uptime without investing any more efforts in it. Thats because Orb of storm rolls an individual crit chanche for each target, so one of his hits rolls up to 4 times/cast, depending on how mutch targets are there. So only with this base setup, you got atleast four additional 15% chanches to trigger Elemental overload, depending on how mutch enemys are there. For the melee phys quality bonus i agree, it makes no sense at all. If you dont wanna use it, set your left mouse button to "move only" and youre right one to "smite" with the attack without moving feture on. Badabing badabum, your smite now auto targets. If you only got 84% hit chanche, you should equip atleast one ring/glove with "+xxx to accuracy" and invest in like 50% inc acc in the tree, and your hitchanche should rise to around 90%. Btw, when your average hitchanche is only 84%, your critchanche get crippled even more, no wonder that you dont crit. To land a succesfull crit, you first need to make an accuracy roll to determin if your attack hits, than you need your critchanche to roll a crit, and THAN you need to acc roll again to confirm the crit. So yea, when you use multistrike, you only have like 3 aps, a average hit chanche of 84% (even less so against bosses), a crit chanche of 5%, than it will take ages for you to actualy roll a crit with that. " Well thanks for the suggestions but there are some problems. First, I have a lvl 1 cwdt with immortal call and enfeeble already and since cwdt have a global cooldown i might get survival problems with using another. Another problem is that I really dont have any gem slots for that and yea normal non melee builds dont need to do that too. Its frustrating that normal spellcaster and bow attack builds dont need to do stuff like that ... I had a 6.25% basecrit brightbeak, abnormal attack speed, loreweave with bonus crit chance and a crit ring with my char hyena_giggle and you would not believe how often elemental overload was not on ... all thanks to the multistrike mechanic. When I need that much crit chance and accuracy investment I could just go crit, Elemental Overload would not make any sense if it requires any more investment other than an acceptable accuracy rating with super fast attack builds that I am playing with flat elemental damage scaling. When hitting like 10 times in a second how can it be possible to not crit once EVEN with some crit investment in a 4 second duration when permanently hitting stuff? And that anomaly was and is everyday business thanks to multistrike. It would not be like that without it as I saw when playing Smite without multistrike until I got tired of the targeting of ancestral call. And why would it be like that? Why would an underpowered playstyle like melee get handicapped even more by the made up mechanics of a mandatory skillgem that doesnt even deliver a decent damage boost? It makes no sense and the cherry on top is ruthless and how much more clunky clearing it gets only because of that multistrike thing. I would not rant if the skill gem would not be mandatory but it is, if you do manual targeting with most melee skills you end up in a mental hospital before getting 100. So if something is mandatory it should not make the interactions with the basic mechanics of this game, hitting, critting, ruthless blow counter, worse. Honestly I wish some ability would roll crit on every hit and not everu use.
There is some discrepency , some skills does, some dont :( Especially for multistrike, I'm doing a coc slam and its need to reach 6aps , but its alway all or nothing :( |

" Yea it is a real handicap that lowers the clearspeed and flow and its compltely unncessary. It would be a huge improvement alrady if it just groups 2 attacks together instead of 3 like Spell Echo does. Spell Echo doesnt have to deal with accuracy and gives a WHOOPING 1.7*0.9 = 53% MORE DPS. Its so unfair, I really wish GGG would just take the spell echo gem, and change "cast speed" with "attack speed" and "spells" with "attacks" and then rename it to Multistrike ... " CWDT does not have a "global cooldown", each individual spell got his own cooldown in CWDT. So if you have your immortal call setup in a 4 linked, you can switch out, i assume increased duration, for Orb of Storms. You can have as many CWDT setups as you like, only same skills share cooldown (for example linking arc on 3 different CWDT setups is bullshit, because when one triggers, all go on cd, but you can link an arc, a stormcaal and a spark, and each will trigger). When you attack 10 times/s with brightbeak and multistrike, you only "use" the skill 3.33 times/s, so only 3.33 chnaches to crit each second. Also, as i mentionet, 85% average hitchance does not sound bad, but it is. Its your AVERAGE hitchance, basicly, if the monster is a bland object without any internal defenses. But gues what, enemys got their own defenses, they are not all naked peasant, so your real hit chance very fast drops to 70%, or against bosses even more. Do you know why enfeeble cripples crit builds? Not becasue it reduces their critchache directly. It cripples their accuracy, so they simply cant confirm their crits. Increase your accuracy, not your critchance, and/or sacrifice one (better two) in one CWDT setup to get that constant orb of storms going. I never ever had any problems activating elemental overload on any character. Ok, thats a lie, if you play full evas/dodge/blind trapper saboteur, it gets nasty, becasue you trap crits does not count, and the CWDT setubs trigger very infrequently. But on a, i assume with that hit chanche, STR based melee? Sorry, you got problems almost noone else has. Maybe multistrike is not perfectly balanced, and yea, i agree, they acc/critrolls should roll for each attack, not each skill use. But i guess, GGG is knowing that, and if it would be an easy thing to fix, they would have fixed it already. Stop whining, get your accuracy upp, even if that means to sacrifice some damage on gloves or rings, or play arc mines, and be bored to hell. IGN: Toxic_Artillery

Spell echo is pretty broken imo. 10% less is so meaningless lol. Multistrike should be 10% less for 2h, then maybe 20% less for 1h. But repeated skills at a higher speed than can be achieved with just faster attacks/casting is broken by itself. Crit too. Crit is cheap in every game.

" Whats the good accuracy rating exactly that I am supposed to have? 2000? 2500? 5000??? The 85% means 85% vs lvl 100 mobs but there are not level 100 mobs in the game most of the times I was fighting lvl 80 mobs. Yea I am playing strength based melee but I easily get 100% increased acc from the free thanks to the mace ele damage wheel, art of the gladiator, finesse, precision and stuff and have like 200 dex. With the char that I am talking about I have an accuracy rating of 1781. |

Frankly I hate the animation lock. I don't know how many times this gem was the cause of my death because I had to wait that little extra time to move. I wish movement would cancel the multistrike attacks.
