What should I (not) buy to play PoE?

If you want a cost effective way of playing the game well don't buy a laptop.

Don't go cheap. Save up for a computer. Much smarter to buy quality later than to continue buying crap and have to re-buy year after year.

This. Future-proof your machine and you'll spend less in the long run.

It isn't so much future-proofing, I think we are still in the lifespan of electronics and tech that it keeps advancing too quickly to properly future proof more than 3-5 years ahead max. More so that just like many things, if you go cheapest possible options with your budget, it won't last as you expect it, learned that with gf's first computer with a lower end psu, didn't kill the computer or anything but ball bearings getting out of place and making grinding sounds 6 months into use, not worth it.

And laptops are fairly cost effective for gaming I think if mobilization is a major priority, but that is more at the higher end of laptops for gaming. You get a standard laptop from today's lineup and its going to be shot playing something like PoE in a year or two if you play regularly. Otherwise, I too would always recommend desktop if possible.
